Maybe I am wrong, but I think JackTheDumb is saying we are getting distracted from the real issues. Maybe Trump is really an evil genius and playing us for a fool straight from the Nazi playbook.

"The vice president who shot his friend in the face while hunting" might be the voice of reason. Just another WAAF signal.

Again, not only is this outrageous, but this is a big win for ISIS and the extremists' agenda.

More or less, except that Trump still is a narcissistic fool and Steve Bannon is the evil genius behind him. Trump is like a bull in a chinashop. While everyone counts how much porcelain he broke no one notices that Bannon had the shop owner deported.

This is were the metaphor ends. We concentrate on Trump and say "Hey he is not evil, he is a madman." Which might actually be true, but meanwhile the Trump Administration is clearly evil and corrupt. Trump might do the things to cater his narcissistic needs. Meanwhile Kushner is working towards filling his and Trumps pockets while Bannon is working towards fascism.

Stuff like this. I love my family but this is driving me insane.
it is a tough dilema, and it's unlikely that people who think that will change their mind due to what anyone posts on Faceboojk or whatever, but I tend to respond out of duty. (I'm in the UK but saw similar posts over Brexit, though not from family members to be fair.)

A small part of me dies inside whenever I read something like that. Part of it, I've come to realise, is frustration as I know that these people have such deep-set ideas in their head that they won't change their views in the short term no matter how strong the evidence is against any of their views.

It's crazy what level of evil people are willing to go to for such a relatively small amount of money. That's like ~$1000 per Iraqi civilian death.

Best part of that story is that the friend apologized to cheney afterwards.

Do you think ISIS wants to use commercial travel or make the rest of the Muslim world believe America hates all Muslims and not just the extreme Muslims?

if i was i denied entry into a country I would be upset but I wouldn't want to harm civilians of that country, i don't know why you think it would be different for Muslims
01-28-2017 , 11:09 AM
I never asked any question about harming anyone.

That's not what he's saying - he's saying that Trump's rhetoric and actions are going to help ISIS recruit. Pretty much all experts around the world seem to think this.

As for the US being "safe" at home - they were anyway according to the stats, but elsewhere (including places where Americans are on holiday) there is likely to be an increased risk. Still a tiny risk in most countries of course.

if there are Muslims that hate the United States. It would be mainly because of bipartisan US foreign policy in the Middle East since WW2. I don't see this moving the needle in a significant way.

that sounds similar to the argument that liberal condescension helped convince people to vote for Trump.

I question both theories.

Trump has moved the needle in literally every country besides Russia.

Only trump and his awful bad of hate-mongers would institute a shibboleth for refugees.

Sounds like you are saying that pretty much all experts on the Middle East and ISIS are wrong. I don't claim to be an expert myself, but ISIS are based on hate and all the stuff around enemies of Islam. The USA has targeted Muslims.
01-28-2017 , 11:49 AM
ISIS absolutely wants to make Muslims unwelcome in the west. It's not a secret, they have a ****ing magazine where they write about this. They call areas where moderate muslims and westerners coexist peacefully the grey zone and they want to destroy it. Trump is basically accomplishing their goal.

It's just amazing how much trumpkins obsess about ISIS when they are so ignorant about what it is or what it wants.

Reminds me of this David Cross bit:
Quote:
I don't think Osama bin Laden sent those planes to attack us because he hated our freedom. I think he did it because of our support for Israel, our ties with the Saudi family and our military bases in Saudi Arabia. You know why I think that? Because that's what he ****ing said! Are we a nation of 6-year-olds? Answer: yes.

I'm no Muslim but I can certainly relate to the desire to hurt certain glib weasel civilians in this country right about now.
