Still, probably the best thing is to do some uber diplomacy with China and SK and get a full buyin for NK 2.0. That's no small lift for even a theoretically competent administration, and it seems like the Donald's people are more into saber rattling even if it alienates China and isn't coordinated with SK. No, because the North Korea thing happened before with Obama, Bush, and Clinton. It's a shakedown pure and simple. They rattle their sabers, then they get some form of payoff from the US, South Korea, Japan, or some combination of them, then they go quiet again.
The difference is now this time it's with Trump, so one has to seriously consider how far he's willing to go before he capitulates to whatever it is they want. My guess is that he'll go just far enough to look tougher than Obama, then let it go. Hopefully anyways.
