It was public knowledge that there was a high likelihood Russia was interfering with the election PRIOR to the meeting he had with the Russian ambassador. So, his position is that he met with the Russian ambassador in his capacity as a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, while experts were saying the Russians were hacking to influence the election, and the topic didn't come up?

He's basically saying he met with the guy and turned a blind eye to the dude's government trying to influence our elections. Why in the world would you do that??? One wonders.
