The Presidency of Donald J. Trump: No smocking guns. The Presidency of Donald J. Trump: No smocking guns.

For the record I will say I believe they did discuss the campaign and the election but good luck getting Sessions to admit that or the Russian rep to sell out Sessions. Its pretty much up to him to resign at this point if that did happen because there isn't enough evidence otherwise for Trump or Pence to fire him or force a resignation as there was with Flynn

This is where We The People come in as a check and balance for democracy. We must protest to the point that keeping Sessions is untenable.

Keep in mind your alternative will likely be Guiliani or Romney. I'm not sure anyone will be all the more excited with the next option anyway

He answered no and as far as I know there is no way the public knows of right now at least to discount that. Had he been strictly asked if he had any contact whatsoever regarding anything then we would have a problem
Franken didn't ask specifically about communications related to campaign or elections, he asked sessions about contact with Russians in general
Quote:
Sessions was asked directly by Sen. Al Franken (D-Minn.): “If there is any evidence that anyone affiliated with the Trump campaign communicated with the Russian government in the course of this campaign, what will you do?”

Sessions responded, “Senator Franken, I’m not aware of any of those activities. I have been called a surrogate at a time or two in that campaign and I did not have communications with the Russians, and I’m unable to comment on it.”

I don't think this is JAQing off in the usual sense. Tsao genuinely doesn't know what's going on and doesn't know how to find out other than to ask us.

In these times Romney would be a dream.

Guiliani, not so much.

You're doing solid work, don't let trolls tell you otherwise.

for the second time in US history a US president used the power of his administration to spy on and investigate the other party's campaign.

Nixon did it in 1972

Obama did it in 2016/17

Russia did its election manipulations but there is no evidence of collusion with any Americans, so Obama et al. are reduced to creating fake news to create the opposite impression. the Sessions story is a case in point of using a sentence fragment to manufacture a false claim of perjury.

I mean, I wasn't expecting you all to be such whiny sourpusses about it.

I read the wikipedia page when you all turned out to be useless.

I don't think my future confirmation hearing will go well when they ask why a 40-year old man subscribed to Teen Vogue.

LOL FAKE NEWS. Trump is going to jail along with a decent bit of his administration. You can run with the fake news line. You can sit in denial that you are supporting a Russian agent. But realize Trump is going to jail. Probably for financial crimes.

I doubt either of those two would be a Sessions replacement. Maybe the Kansas immigration hardliner whose me, or Christie.

Jeff Sessions lied under oath. Dullards defending him need to reread Cuse's post til comprehension is achieved.

"I did not have communications with the Russians"

That is a direct quote from Session's hearing, it's on video and readily available. He was under oath when he said it.

I somehow doubt there is a direct connection here, i. e. Trump asks for a hack and the Russians comply.

And I don't know if there are any good Cliffs on Trump/Russia connections--there are a ton of different threads and people are still investigating. But, Trump has long standing ties to Russia and Ukraine. Here's a detailed article on Michael Cohen, Trump's lawyer and right hand man for the past decade.

Also from that article:

Quote:
We know from public records that in the last decade Trump became highly dependent on money from the former Soviet Union, both to finance mega-projects like Trump SoHo but also as a source of buyers of apartment units at Trump high-rises in New York City, Florida and other locales (The Cohen brothers and their families are purchasers of at least 12 apartments in Trump buildings - 11, according to a 2006 article in The New York Post and one owned by the Oronovs, according to Florida public records.) Donald Trump, Jr. said famously in 2008 that “Russians make up a pretty disproportionate cross-section of a lot of our assets. We see a lot of money pouring in from Russia”.
Now that Trump has installed a pro-Russia Secretary of State and his appointees are dissembling about their conversations with Russian officials these connections look sinister and problematic.

Sessions's false testimony is just the tip of the iceberg. The real meat in the pudding is stuff we still don't know yet.

Out of curiosity here, for the liberals:

Do you think it was a good thing that Wikileaks released what they did release about the DNC? Maybe if the timing was different?
03-02-2017 , 10:27 AM
If Sessions met with some Russian(s) in an official capacity as a member of whatever committee, wouldn't there be at least notes or meeting minutes if not full audio?
