Someone on twitter, I forget who, made the insightful point that one reason people glow about how "presidential" Trump's speech was is that they so desperately want things to be OK that they will seize on any sign, however flimsy, that Trump is starting to act normal. But nope, he's actually demolishing the deep foundations of our country's prosperity and security at a very rapid pace.

Constant opposition surely, but the problem with "unrestrained" opposition is that many of Trumps tweets, proposals, policies, etc. are actually bait, just as posts from a forum troll. Trump was able to tweet the election focus away from actual objective reality in general onto himself.

I guess not. That memo is dated yesterday.

It's partly this, but it's mostly just a product of exceedingly low expectations. This phenomenon played out with W all the time in the debates. He was a terrible debater, and not particularly well spoken, so anytime he sounded halfway coherent, it spawned a bunch of stories about how well he did in the debate.

He's the mother ****ing president, that's his ****ing job to sound that way. Conservatives bitch about this era we live in where everyone gets a trophy yet everyone wants to stroke Trump for sounding how a president should sound?

Wtf is going on
Yeah that's the bar now. He didn't sound like a drooling idiot most of his speech (outside of the content of what he said) and supporters and opponents are both praising it as an accomplishment. It's crazy.

This is standard trump, first do everything in extreme measures then when you settle back down towards the middle but still in your favor the other side capitulates.

I am pretty unhappy with the number of trump oppositionists who are lauding him only using five made up words in his speech and completely ignoring what he said. It's disheartening.

You basically just go buy them from people who got them legally.

Sadly that's true, I'm not even making it up.

Let's do it this way -you're now criticizing me. So, I'm going to assume you are pro war, pro drug war, pro deportation, pro asset forfeiture.

Man microbet, you really do support a lot of terrible things.

Kool, put me on ignore and go back to agreeing with each other. That's like the whole point of forums, right, a place to agree with one another. Keep presenting your positions the way you are, keep losing elections, keep thinking Bernie Sanders is going to save the country on his hundredth birthday, you've all got this!
Shut the **** up.

I agree!

Also, and we mentioned this in the sweat thread, but he hit such a broad array of issues. He literally pandered to any issue anyone has ever cared about ever. He even said he was for clean air and water.

Boy, this is some interesting convo, what else can we agree on!?

I would think that some people with mental illness would NOT acquire a gun because it is illegal but might proceed to do so if legal.

In your opinion are a portion of mentally ill people able to retain a sense of law and order and morality when it comes to breaking laws? I would assume like everyone else they can.

I am a gun owner and support gun ownership but I think there are all kinds of laws that need to be maintained or added to control that sphere. The mental illness one is one. Buying guns at gun shows is another (and that is where I got my first gun).

I don't want guns made illegal but I do think that there absolutely would be less issues if the only way to obtain guns was illegally. I think removing limitations on groups that are high risk to themselves and others is a horrible mistake. Literally the only benefit is to sell more guns. It's gross and irresponsible.

You are missing the point. Obama sounded presidential long before he was president. Trump has never sounded presidentia yet people are slobbing all over him for sort of learning how to read.

mark, truefish is a true believer who steps in for like 3 posts, gets mad when people disagree with his level one analysis of "trump is a perfect human being and probably jesus" then leaves for 3 weeks.

Dominic, at CPAC there were also *two* panels on how WW3 has already started.
