Then it's not the same thing. I'm talking about productive members of society who function on the right side of the law, but may feel they are suffering from depression or some other disorder. Perhaps they already are a gun owner. Do you honestly think they're just as likely to seek help and take the chance of receiving a diagnosis that causes them to lose their gun or right to own one?

Of course, I see your point and don't think it's a good idea for people with severe mental illnesses owning guns. I just think such a law is the wrong solution.

I guess it does matter if Trump is just pretending to be a Christian/Fascist/Racist/Nationalist/Isolationist/Conservative or w/e just because he wanted to be POTUS or did it for a troll or is following Putin's commands, but whether it's real or a charade it's cause enough for unrestrained opposition not just to his next election but to his current presidency.

You missed a lot. It's not a good idea to discourage the entire gun owning population (plus anyone who might want one some day) to refrain from receiving mental health care should they need it.

It's a simple question: Is society safer when someone with a gun is under the care of a mental health professional and taking proper medication? Or one who isn't seeking any treatment at all? And yes also...laws will not prevent people who really want a gun from obtaining one illegally. So such a law while sounding like a good idea, is a net negative imo.

This all should be moved to the cold dead hands thread, but people with mental health issues are safer without guns in general. Laws which provide impediments to obtaining a gun for people in moments of extreme weakness save lives by reducing suicide rates, and should be welcomed.

There is/was no OBL counterpart. The point is not being part of the organization. The chain of command on 9/11, the planner Khalid Sheikh Mohammad and his boss OBL, are in custody or dead. It is very strange when the "libertarians" are most interesting in defending the fascists. But Trump is a clarifying force in American politics.

I think we can agree that Pakistan and Yemen are completely different, no? I'm pretty sure we've had boots on the ground in Yemen before and I don't even think Chief Owens was the first SEAL killed there. Hell, I think I've read that we've had operators in the Pakistani tribal regions as well. Yemen is a cluster**** right now.

It's not ok with me that Obama bombed or landed on many different countries outside of any international agreements or congressional approval. But, like I said, if there were ONE TIME where these laws were to be violated, it was for OBL.

Is right on target. However serious Trump is he went too far. "The press is the enemy of the American people" is the equivalent of saying "I've got a bomb" when you get on an airplane. It doesn't matter what your intent was or if you really do have a bomb; you're off the plane immediately at the very least.
