The Presidency of Donald J. Trump: No smocking guns. The Presidency of Donald J. Trump: No smocking guns.

The bin Laden raid might have been a bungled raid if the helicopter pilot hadn't managed to pull off a gentle crash landing. The essential difference is not that Carter or Washington led bungled operations, it's that they understood that the buck stops with the Commander in Chief.
Carter and Kennedy and Washington were all rightfully criticized by their opponents for their military mistakes though. Screwing up a military operation is not a uniquely Trumpean failure (although his unique ineptitude likely contributed to it), but the fact that it's not a completely unique out of the norm outrage doesn't mean it's not perfectly appropriate to hit him hard on it.

I'm honestly confused. How can it be a positive thing when people are saying he sounded presidential last night?

He's the mother ****ing president, that's his ****ing job to sound that way. Conservatives bitch about this era we live in where everyone gets a trophy yet everyone wants to stroke Trump for sounding how a president should sound?

Wtf is going on

It seems that the speech is hard to do well and the setting is always so starkly different. It might make sense to not throw a star up in that spot.

Donald Trump's attorney general said Tuesday the Justice Department will limit its use of a tactic employed aggressively under President Obama — suing police departments for violating the civil rights of minorities.

"We need, so far as we can, to help police departments get better, not diminish their effectiveness. And I'm afraid we've done some of that," said Attorney General Jeff Sessions.

"So we're going to try to pull back on this," he told a meeting of the nation's state attorneys general in Washington.

It's really not that hard to obtain guns illegally.
As a physician who deals with people with mental illness on a daily basis I can tell you that literally 0 people with mental illness in my career have foregone mental health services for fear of losing their 2A rights or worries over being able to get a firearm. And I deal almost exclusively with those that are not seeking mental health services and get picked up by the police / EMS. You're imagining a potential problem which simply doesn't exist.

Yes, right-wingers are completely and totally unprincipled. Wonder no more, it's not just you.

If John McCain doesn't hurry up when he dies his tombstone will read "Talked a Good Game But Didn't Do ****"

I think I missed something here.

If we deny gun rights to people with certain classes of mental illness, it will be ineffectual because "it's really not that hard to obtain guns illegally", but at the same time the supposedly ineffectual regulation would discourage those people from seeking care for their illness?

I'm all for Lestat's argument that we shouldn't try to regulate anything that's already fairly easy to get illegally.
03-01-2017 , 11:26 AM
Also Lestat please note that gun ownership is one of the biggest risk factors for a patient with depression / mental illness committing suicide. Not that facts matter or anything...

Is it really that easy to get a gun illegally? Like would the average joe know where to go / who to talk to to buy a gun illegally? Cuz I certainly would have no idea. Serious question.

This gets brought up when it comes to "When you can guns only the criminals have guns". It's true that with enough effort someone could find a gun. Shootings still occur in Britain and the police still find guns even in countries where they are banned, but most criminals aren't that motivated, nor is the average person.

My only "knowledge" on the topic comes from an episode of It's Always Sunny when Dee and Dennis try to buy a gun, so I have to recuse myself from the topic of how easy it is to illegally obtain a gun.

Here's hoping they apply this logic to cannabis.

Why are you so angry? Were you this angry when it was mentioned that Obama sounded presidential? Did you call him the mother****ing president as well? One thing I notice about the open minded compassionate left, is that they are so angry all the time.

I live in the UK. Back when I was 9 or 10 there was an armed robbery at my parent's house. It turned out that the criminals had imitation firearms, presumably because they were a couple of idiots that couldn't source real guns. Even if they could get their hands on them it would cost more than the £60 they got away with. I don't doubt for one second that people that are involved in serious organised crime can get their hands on most things that they want. However, most petty criminals that want drug money are going to find it hard.

That happens when the far right elects a fascist buffoon.

Aren't gun shows exempt from back ground checks? Denver had a huge gun show a couple of times a year it seemed like.
