They are doing it because they want to ban media. And why? It's not really as punishment. What punishment? NYT doesn't get to ask a question and receive a non-answer? No, they are doing it as a display. They're showing their power because their boot-licking subservient followers love that. And along with much more threatening moves like talking about RICO charges for protesters, they are trying to intimidate opposition.
CNN just had Ari Fleisher on who said that it is standard for White Houses to do this, it was done all the time under Bush and Obama, stop hyperventilating.
CNN host said "But there was no briefing today"
Fleisher: "Because the President gave a speech, that's also standard."
CNN host: But what about him calling the media the enemy of the people
So CNN host didn't really counter Fleisher's statements that this happened all the time under Bush/Obama, and I don't know enough to know if that's true or not, but she totally accepted it.
Thoughts?
Edit to add: Fleisher did say what was unique about this was the current Press Secretary's involvement, in that usually it is not a good idea for the Press Secretary to be involved, as it damages his/her relationship with the press corps.
