This suppression of the press is the MO of the far-right. The far right in this country (Dominion theology/evangelical/far right Christian politics) essentially coined the term alternative facts. For example, an alternate fact of this sect is that dinosaurs and humans lived on the Earth at the same time.

Nevertheless the suppression of free SECULAR press will continue.

I've recently started reading books about far-right America and the intersection of politics and theology. I have some recommendations if anyone is interested. It's harrowingly fascinating. However it's pretty clear that far-right theology and authoritarianism intersect. That's where we are at.

Sure someone sane had to be in the room guys but we see where this is headed... it's going to be only the right and then maybe even only the alt right organizations. You're assuming that other companies haven't already been tipped off to work on their proposal. Not that this prestigious administration would ever do anything like that, of course.

It's so easy to non-answer questions and press secretaries have been doing it forever with no problem at all. So why ban media from press conferences? It would be somewhat scary if everyone involved were just so dumb that they couldn't pull off acting normal. But what is really scary is that they aren't banning media to avoid their questions. They are doing it because they want to ban media. And why? It's not really as punishment. What punishment? NYT doesn't get to ask a question and receive a non-answer? No, they are doing it as a display. They're showing their power because their boot-licking subservient followers love that. And along with much more threatening moves like talking about RICO charges for protesters, they are trying to intimidate opposition.

CNN just had Ari Fleisher on who said that it is standard for White Houses to do this, it was done all the time under Bush and Obama, stop hyperventilating.

CNN host said "But there was no briefing today"

Fleisher: "Because the President gave a speech, that's also standard."

CNN host: But what about him calling the media the enemy of the people


So CNN host didn't really counter Fleisher's statements that this happened all the time under Bush/Obama, and I don't know enough to know if that's true or not, but she totally accepted it.

Edit to add: Fleisher did say what was unique about this was the current Press Secretary's involvement, in that usually it is not a good idea for the Press Secretary to be involved, as it damages his/her relationship with the press corps.
