RE: Trump only cares about himself and not actual policies, I think you guys are again discounting that he's a racist old Boomer culture warrior type and that is sincerely felt by him. So sincerely his grift there isn't really a grift. His voters are stupid but not that stupid. Most elite GOPers know all that cultural warrior stuff is a con and a hustle, Trump doesn't or genuinely believes it, this separated him from his competitors in the primary because GOP voters sensed that. Again, he's an excellent manipulator and knows the modern TV environment and the Boomer cultural gestalt. It's fantastical nonsense but he knows all the stuff that makes them tic. Whether intentional or happenstance, it separated him. People are praising AOC for navigating the meme and social media world of young leftists, so too could Trump deeply understand and feel white Boomer cultural anxieties and the cable news vectors that reach them, and saw lots of other GOPers were ripe for exploitation here and couldn't find their way out of it, the same way his opponents are still strangely mewing about norms and in constant awe he gets alot of what he wants while they're frustrated.
