The Presidency of Donald J. Trump: No smocking guns. The Presidency of Donald J. Trump: No smocking guns.

It's OK if you're a Republican. Everything is permissible if you're a Republican.

I get you. I don't know the answer. My guess is roughly similar to microbet's really, I'd expect some isolated violence but I'm still skeptical that any critical mass of deplorables is going to launch an armed insurrection or anything. I think these scenarios are still relatively unlikely, it's just scary because they aren't completely implausible.

And that, more generally and far more importantly, the rules that keep people behaving don’t actually exist. I think we all intuitively knew that people with money had a way better shot at beating the legal system; I’ll admit I had no idea rich people are literally above the law.

If Trump lost 2020 we would see ten Charlottesvilles that year, minimum.

The only time rich white men go to jail is when they do something that is deemed unforgivable. See Jerry Sandusky or Bernie Madoff.

I'm simplictus confident.

The army of rank-n-file deplorables are maxing out their action potential with these MAGA rallies, just like they did with the Tea Party rallies before. That's it, that's all they got.

Those rallies are all astroturfed. They don't happen without active and persistent $$$$ sponsorship. Civil unrest is bad for business. There is no way the Koch bros/etc/etc aren't pulling the plug long before civil unrest might come into play.

The folks that go out and actually do more than rally are a tiny group. The Proud Boys etc/etc are currently outnumbered like 100-1 on the streets. They aren't going to stand up to the cops... they need those cops to protect them from civil society.

If there is violence, it'll be stuff like unorganized mass shootings in churches, pizza parlor basements, and such.

Looks like Sinema is going to win in AZ, which is awesome and i do like her well enough but don’t be shocked if the one-time Iraq war protestor rubber stamps a few Trump judges and otherwise goes along with some Republican garbage. I’d imagine her new-found centrism is a conscious tactic to win in a mostly conservative state (apparently she identifies with LBGTQ per my wife and i don’t think she suddenly became a moderate) but sucks that we maybe can’t rely on her for progressive action. Then again she built her campaign around healthcare, which many of us agree is the smart way to go so who knows.

I don't think another OKC bombing is out of the realm of possibility. From what I've seen the neo fascists are changing tactics after the tragic success of UTR and the laughable failure of UTR2. They're moving towards a more quick strike tactic with smaller groups. I could see a small group wanting to build a bomb and causing a lot of destruction and death.

There won't be violence, there will just be more riggage in 2020.

Not with a bang but with a whimper.

I am sure that the principle of Congressional investigations of political opponents being bad for the country overall will be applied universally.

How could President Trump losing help the free market? If he lost it would be to a Democrat who would work to remove the recent tax cuts and punish businesses with more regulation and higher taxes....
11-12-2018 , 12:54 PM
You think the tax cuts are doing anything at all for the economy as a whole? And regulations aren't punishment. People don't have a right to get rich without regard for those around them.
11-12-2018 , 12:54 PM
Won't somebody think of the businesses?

Yeah...but abandoning Canada and our European allies...while snuggling up to Putin and other dictators...that's gotta pay off bigly...yes??
