I swear there's a treaty against the militarization of space so I'm curious what exactly Space Force(TM) will be doing. Everything I've seen has just been generic '"we need to protect assets in space" kinds of stuff

Space has already been militarized for all practical purposes. Whatever treaty we have is probably just window dressing.

As befits a branch of the military created on a whim by Trump, Space Force is basically cobbled-together-bs force! All the way!

U.S. Space Command will be responsible for directing the employment of the Space Force.

That press release reads like they just inserted the word space before certain words from a previous press release.

The impression I get is they’re going to cobble together all the Air Force and Navy departments that are alteady doing space stuff and have a huge reorg that will waste billions of dollars. Also they’ll sink crazy amounts of money into designing new uniforms.
