Kennedy announced his retirement.

Kennedy retiring.
06-27-2018 , 02:07 PM
Well. Kennedy is Retiring. WAAF. I am sure republicans will ram more oppressive rulings down our throats.
06-27-2018 , 02:07 PM
RIP freedom.

Eh I have always had an issue with unions being able to force non members to pay dues. I realize they potentially benefit from union negotiations but I still don’t support the concept of people not having to join but still being forced to pay dues.

That difference is more of a failure on the leadership of unions as opposed to anything else.

Dems are gonna rubberstamp whatever monstrous assclown Trump nominates for SCOTUS. Hello, Justice Giuliani.

This ruling was eminently forseeable. The Supreme Court does not break on partisan lines nearly as often as most people assume, but forget it about on this issue. 5-4 vote was almost guaranteed.

No they're not.

That's always been my kneejerk, but if I compare it to Obamacare, it's obvious that the free-rider problem is a huge one. So my feelings are mixed on the topic. OTOH, having to deal with the nursing union at my hospital when I was doing admin stuff didn't give me the highest opinion of unions, admittedly in a series of one....

No right person. I said I'd go away for a while and think things over and I did. Shaming works. Especially, when done en masse and on a large scale. It's not just the shaming though. It's giving no quarter. I now agree there's no such thing as being a "little" racist. All it takes is to be silent to do just as much damage to minorities and inequality as those donning white sheets or waving Nazi flags.

hope all those moderate women who voted for Trump are happy!
06-27-2018 , 02:16 PM
I wouldn't be surprised if Clarence Thomas retires soon as well.
06-27-2018 , 02:16 PM
I'm sure Susan Collins and Jeff Flake and all the other concerned and troubled senators will oppose whatever POS Trump nominates!
06-27-2018 , 02:17 PM
Oh cool, just what this country needed as we move closer to open warfare, another SCOTUS fight
06-27-2018 , 02:19 PM
I talked to one of Kennedy's former clerks about a year ago and he told me that Kennedy became a near 100% lock to retire after Trump nominated Gorsuch. That was a pretty big reason why Gorsuch was nominated imo.
06-27-2018 , 02:24 PM
Why couldn't he wait until midterms exactly?
06-27-2018 , 02:25 PM
Now if only Dems can stall until the election, win Senate and then hold the seat hostage

Not gonna happen but one can wish
06-27-2018 , 02:25 PM
So losing the election will change what would be a 6-3 court into an even more conservative 5-4 court. Nice work anyone who didn't vote for HRC.

Kennedy's reputation in legal history, an OK justice with an essentially conservative legal framework who was sometimes too decent to vote with the conservatives.

Because he did not want to interfere with Trump picking his replacement.
