I have no doubt that Trump would gladly assume the title of emperor if it were possible for him to do so, but people are wildly overstating the likelihood that the US will turn into a dictatorship absent revolutionary measures on the left.

But for the actions of one person (Comey), we probably would be in the midst of ten consecutive years with a Democrat in the White House.

I am more concerned that Trump will face (and make terrible decisions in response to) an acute foreign policy crisis than I am that he will usher in a dictatorship. I of course wouldn't rule out the possibility of him creating an acute foreign policy crisis either.

My larger concerns are not specific to Trump. The GOP has outworked, outfoxed, outwhatevered the Democratic party at the local level for damn near three decades now. That has done a ton of long term damage to good causes and will continue to do so. And the fix will take a long time.

What has the left won on since Obama got elected? It really seems like a few half measures that have already eroded and just an absolute ton of losses.

Completely true and to a large extent the fault of be left. The right has been focused on lower political positions and judges for a decade while the left focussed on president, house and senate only. Most the heavy lifting by the right has been by these lower positions through gerrymandering and filling the courts.

The DNC decided to exclusively focus on the Presidency and congressional races that they can win without any heavy lifting. The "left" had nothing to do with that decision.
