guy who benefited more than anyone at least in US history that I'm aware of thanks to FBI meddling in elections and leaks and greatly encouraged it during the campaign is all of a sudden strongly against that and shocked it's happening.

The media wants to put on a good show and Trump gave them that. Any other candidate could have put on a good show and got lots of air time too. Air time is not a measure of support.
