But only three or four hours before Flynn resigned, the Chairman of the House Intelligence Committee (House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence), Devin Nunes, said there was no problem and it was just the President's enemies ("the swamp" in his words) making trouble. "It just seems like there's a lot of nothing here," Nunes told Bloomberg's Steven Dennis.
something something oversight checks and balance etc system works yay USA#1.

6pm: just the swamp making trouble
9pm: problem solved, not looking into this, executive privilege

I was giving the Noze posts a 30% chance to be sincere, but what made them believable is that they were NOT fake. There really are people out there who feel that stuff is intelligent enough to put on the Internet.

Someone post Spicer play by play if possible. I feel bad for the guy at this point.

Of course we are not even a month into trump's first term. Just guessing on what Cuban said and looking where things might be headed it might not even be necessary. I am a big Cuban fan myself but if we need him to save us from eight years of trump we really are all...
I'm still betting on Oprah or Anthony Robbins.

Just the way Trump is using the office to enrich himself and promote his businesses is insane. May not be the most dangerous/damaging thing he is doing, but so blatant, shameless and undeniably wrong.

He doesn't even try to hide it, this guy has personally paid me a fortune, let me spice up his wedding with an official state visit by the Japanese PM. This company does not want to carry my daughter's products, let me attack them as sitting President! Just got elected President, let me double my club's initiation fees. Let me make a push to have foreign officials stay at my hotel. And on and on.

Disregarding the emoluments clause, the reason ethics laws against using the office for enrichment don't specifically apply to the President is that we trust the people not to elect a scumbag who would do that and for there to be swift public outcry and congressional reaction if someone was dumb enough to try.

"The President can't have a conflict of interest," what kind of insane doubletalk is that????? Of course ANYONE can have a conflict of interest, and the President is in an unbelievable position to abuse that conflict if left unchecked. Awval, have you been gaslighted by all the insane **** he has said that you are just going to nod your head and move along?

Instead, you get awval/Chaffetz shrugging and saying ethics laws don't apply to the President, what do you want me to do about it? I want you to enforce ethical norms and let the President know you want stand for his blatant use of the office of President for personal gain you smug, obtuse, m'fers!!!!!
It really shouldn't come as a surprise. Look at how many people stay in bad relationships and try to justify behavior even if it's to their own detriment. Awval is like the girl that dates the high school QB. Sometimes he hits her, but that's OK, because it's probably her fault. He didn't really mean too. He's just stressed out about the game.

Law enforcement: powerful but most of the top of the chain now report through Trump
Judiciary: nothing for them here
Intelligence community/deep state: giving it an honest effort
Republican Party: THE LAST HOPE OF THE REPUBLIC

I think there plenty of people who recognize this is abnormal and extraordinary but remember the people both Constitutionally charged with holding Trump accountable are America's crypto surveillance state and law enforcement apparatus now under Trump's control and guys like Mitch McConnell and John Cornyn.

One of the things I've noticed even reaching back to the dawning of Trump in the GOP primaries is the quiet belief there's some collective will or forces beyond what we see to put a stop to bad behavior (manifestation here in this post: "everyone kind of pretends it isn't there.") One of Trump's subtle advantages, whether intentionally leveraged or not, is that we use so many norms and things like shame to police good behavior and Trump simply can't be shamed and isn't aware of or doesn't care for the norms and standards. The world has always dealt with problems like this, it's not a new or exotic one. Now it's on courageous people to act, on agents and guards of the system to move to the next level of enforcement. Americans have for better or worse chosen this moment to anoint the modern Republican Party as the vanguards of the Republic. I am not comforted by this fact but it remains a fact of the system we have, that there's not hidden or unseen forces which can stop Trump and the ones that do exist unfortunately have their interests largely align with his.
I was early on the train of "there wont be a nebulous force that steps in or stops this."

By everyone I guess I meant "the media" - who I wish would be clearer in presenting the overwhelming evidence to the public at large, as well as people more generally. Not institutions but regular people. "Yeah it seems pretty obvious Trump is working with Russia." I'm not hearing that from really anyone.

He would probably have no problem subsidizing his own companies, as "they are some of the greatest companies in the world and thus a great investment." And if it becomes a scandal, he'll simply laugh and say he's making America great again. A few months into office, it becomes evident that he can pretty much do anything he wants as his approval rating hovers between 40-42% while there are round-the-clock protests at the White House over the huge new stimulus package (largely aimed at Trump companies and partners) and the new war with China.

The new Attorney General Christie announces his indictment of Hillary Clinton, and she will immediately be put on trial for charges of "Wreckless endangerment of US security" for Benghazi, her email server, and a laundry list of other charges. Cops will be facing more violence, as the BLM protests and mass shootings continue to increase. Trump announces a martial state, hiring 50,000 new cops immediately, but they will be handled by a third party security company, Trump Security. The new cops immediately come in and shut down the protests, by whatever means necessary. They use their new devices to shut down any cell phone cameras in the area.

Trump has weekly television addresses where he talks about how hard he is working to "Make America Great Again". His sons and daughters are appointed to major positions. Donald Trump Jr. becomes the youngest Chief Justice of the United States. Ruth Bader Ginsburg is put on trial for corruption and ethics charges and ultimately sent to prison.

Trump and the Republican Congress pass a new series of laws aimed at protecting law enforcement. They include immunity from prosecution for any shootings occurring "in the normal course of business as a law enforcement officer of the United States" and giving local municipalities complete control over any body camera and cell phone footage that may be created by an incident, whether it is created by the public or the police.

I guess what I'm saying is, he's really gonna make America great again.
