North Korea firing missiles is fun.

Yeah, so much for it being a slow Trump day. His first reaction, with the Japanese prime minister at his side is... no reaction. Did he get caught with his pants down?

No reaction might be the best move for Trump given his limited ability. Have Mattis react or maybe Abe can write his statement.

Here's an update on Situation Flynn. Congress's response:

http://www.thedailybeast.com/article...sia-talks.html

Quote:
Rep. Eric Swalwell, the top Democrat on the House subcommittee that oversees the CIA, told The Daily Beast, “Until we get to the bottom of it, I don’t think he should have access to classified information.”

...

Lawmakers on the left have already proposed a wishlist of responses, ranging from suspending Flynn of his access to classified information to forcing him to step down entirely.

In fact, measures like these would be typical if Flynn had held a less senior post in the administration. Making matters worse: the retired general already has a history of mishandling sensitive information.

...

But the Flynn revelations have been met—for now—with a wall of silence among Senate Republicans, even those that are typically hawkish on Russia—the offices of Sens. Marco Rubio, John McCain and Lindsey Graham, for example, did not respond to requests for comment.

“I’ve always felt the best policy is to be truthful. I haven’t been briefed on this. I probably will be. We’ll follow this story. Beyond that I really can’t comment,” said Republican Sen. Ron Johnson, the chairman of the Senate Homeland Security Committee, on CNN Friday afternoon. Johnson wouldn’t say whether he would request access to any transcripts that may exist of Flynn’s conversations.
Is it starting to sink in? Nothing will happen. The best the Dems can muster is, "Can we pretty please put his security clearance on hold? Just for a few days. Puh-puh-please...." And the GOP response is "LOL you lib pussies. Why should we?" And they're right. No amount of Post exposés can penetrate the bubble their voters live in. What will penetrate is if Donald Trump calls them shills for the liberal media. Asking the GOP to put principles ahead of politics is laughable after witnessing the contortions they went through in 2016.

I don't get that vibe at all. I see the Dems saying he needs to lose his clearance until they find out what's going on and the GOP saying they haven't been briefed on the situation.

Look, the GOP won't do **** til they they know it's safe to go after Trump and not have to worry about losing votes. We all know that. But Flynn isn't a big name. If anything happens, he'll just be the scapegoat. That's not going to solve anything long term.

Sadly I am more and more agreeing. I think the US is seriously screwed. Nothing trump could do will make republicans act. Nothing.

This is a very good long-form history of the Trump family by Sidney Blumenthal

Quote:
Born with a silver spoon in his mouth, he insists that he has pulled himself up by his bootstraps. But, as well as staking him to launch his real-estate career, when the Taj was sinking like Donald’s own private Titanic, Fred Trump rushed to the casino to buy $3.35 million in chips to buoy his flailing child, who used the money to avoid default by making an interest payment he wouldn’t otherwise have had the liquid reserves to meet. A straight loan would have put Fred Trump in the lengthy queue of creditors. With his loan in the form of chips he could redeem it as soon as his son had the capital. The New Jersey Casino Control Commission ruled a year later that Fred Trump had engaged in an illegal loan and that Donald should return it, which would have forced him into instant bankruptcy. The Trumps blithely ignored the finding and instead paid a meagre $65,000 fine, though the manoeuvre failed to save the casino.

Pelosi going hard.

Quote:
Once again, I am calling on the FBI to investigate the financial, political and personal ties between President Donald Trump and Russia. The American people deserve the truth. President Trump’s kowtowing to Vladimir Putin is endangering our national security and emboldening a dangerous tyrant. What do the Russians have on President Trump that he would flirt with lifting sanctions and weakening NATO?

The President and his National Security Advisor have given the Russians the impression that whatever they do, they are not to worry, because the Trump White House will not stand against their aggression. General Flynn should be suspended and have his intelligence clearance revoked until the facts are known about his secret contacts with the Russians. Republicans should be just as alarmed as Democrats at the mortifying coziness the Trump Administration has shown with Putin. Congress must also launch an bipartisan, independent, outside commission to expose the full extent of Russia’s influence on the election and this Administration.

See, this is why the Dems suck. IDK when Pelosi made that statement, but it's Saturday night. She needs to do this at 7 AM Monday morning that way it dominates the news cycle. But nooooo....

It's the weekend. No one is paying attention. But GJGE I guess.

The paragraph mentions the fine but doesn't really go into how buying chips doesn't give the casino the right to that money. A casino has to have all that money on hand. Basically a Full Tilt situation.

Someone help me understand the argument here. Because horrible things are happening to women in their home countries - we shouldn't let them in ours? We shouldn't worry about our own country until we fix problems in other countries? Muslims suck, therefore we should never let any into the country?

I'm at a complete loss.

If they come in, sharia law will happen here to everyone.

LOL, just like we all had to follow Irish law in the 1800s.

Yeah I don't think this is going to just go away.

This. It's starting to seem like the iceberg is approaching. If Flynn still has a job this time next week we can assume he has TRUMP by the nuts.

I hear we stand by Japan 100 percent. Could have been worse I suppose.

I hope you're right, but I don't see it this way. Trump likes Flynn. My impression is that he's one step under Bannon and Kushner in terms of trustedness. Trump also thinks he's untouchable (so far correctly). So why would he willingly surrender his personal pick here? What is the scenario you're envisioning?

Instead of Draining the Swamp it appears to have moved to Florida, where it will be more at home.

Rep Steinhauer expanded on this view, saying that pregnant people shouldn't want to work for employers who wouldn't accommodate their pregnancies, and thus the state was doing them a favor by failing to require employers to treat workers with fairness and dignity.

Rep Steinhauer's*official state bio*lists his occupation as "business owner."
