There was an OOT thread years ago "ask me about Hitler" or something by a poster who was/is well regarded by many. To me it seemed to veer into hero worship, though that was denied, but I lost it when he claimed that Hitler was literally the most well read person in the history of the world. I was widely scorned for messing up the thread when I told him he was FOS, though finally a few people got my back.

I was surprised to learn that Hitler's paintings only sell for like $30k at auctions, since that spoils the whole premise of that one It's Always Sunny episode. Or maybe that's not true, I dunno I just skimmed a few pages.

To give Hitler his due (mind you, he gave himself his true due, in the bunker, in May of 1945), he did actually write Mein Kampf, whereas The Art of the Deal was ghostwritten. On the other hand, as George Orwell and many others have pointed out, Mein Kampf is pretty badly written. And the author's original title was 'Four And A Half Years of Struggle Against Lies, Stupidity And Cowardice,' which sounds like something Mel Brooks might have made up just to poke fun at him, but no, that really was the title he gave it. The somewhat snappier 'My Struggle' was the publisher's idea.

But although they were the same age, they weren't in the same grade. Wittgenstein was promoted one year above his age, and Hitler was demoted one year down, so they were two grades apart and probably never interacted. Plus Hitler then got expelled.

There is a book by some Australian claiming that Wittgenstein was the bane of Hitler's Realschule years and was a central source of his later anti-Semitism. The same book, IIRC, posits that Wittgenstein's trip to the USSR indicates that he was part of the Cambridge spy ring and that WWII was basically a massive feud between Hitler and Wittgenstein.
