The Presidency of Donald J. Trump: No smocking guns. The Presidency of Donald J. Trump: No smocking guns.

Here's my hot take: Dems should not try to "run" anyone. Go Republican style, run 17 ppl, and whoever lights the base's butts on fire wins.

Motivating the other side is a factor.

The Democrats have lost every single Presidential election in 30+ years when they've run a centrist candidate appealing to the middle.
02-10-2017 , 04:57 PM
Well, that's just not true. Clinton ran as a centrist and Democrats have won 6/7 popular votes. That said, I agree that running a moderate in 2020 is suicide.

Clinton ran on youth and charisma. His centrism was beside the point.

Let's see which Democrat can produce meaningful obstruction between now and 2018 before we start picking favorites.

The same holds true for giving the 1% a tax cut - Richie Richards isn't being held back from "creating jobs" because he's only taking home $10mm a year instead of $14mm. He's just going to pocket that money.
Ideally this point and it's cousin - "corporations just pass tax hikes onto consumers" - would be obvious to college educated people.

Because they're almost half of the people who cast votes. Alienate them all and then you need to run the table to win anything.

I didn't say centrist. I said maybe someone right-wing media hasn't had a decade+ to vilify. I don't get 10% of the Bernie hate vibe from (R)s that I get for Warren.

If Trump didn't motivate them to vote (D) it's not going to happen. However, they might stay home or vote 3rd party in 2020.

No True Centrist!

there's probably a decent portion of (dumb) democrats that voted for Trump to "**** the establishment" that should come back in 2020 after seeing Trump is even more corrupt and a lot more incompetent.

And in theory there should be less and less republicans every 4 years... but who knows

Yeah, you seriously wonder if these guys will ever learn anything from the recent election.

They are not so coordinated or united that they "run anyone" anyways.

This is right and it hardly matters whether the candidates are left right or center. Aside from the automatic party line voters, people vote for the person they like the most or hate the least and they think are on their side.

Bill Clinton felt their pain.

Too many people believed Trump was going to look out for them.

A lot of people like Obama and a lot of people liked Reagan.

They sure as hell were on Clinton.

Man this Flynn guy is a colossal dip stick.

The Dems need another Huey Long type of politician to run in 2020 if they want to prevent Trump from getting a second term.

Otherwise more jerky handshakes shall be had.

That's because the Rs didn't turn their focus to attacking Bernie. They wanted him to do as much damage to Hillary in the primary, so didn't attack him very much (if at all). They've been attacking Warren since she's been viewed as a serious presidential candidate for the last few years.

No matter who the Dem's run for president, the right wing media will tear into, and given the length of the election cycle, I don't think it really matters whether Dems run someone new that hasn't yet been attacked or someone like Warren.

I am totally not resigned to Trump serving the whole four years.

GOP Senators who disagree with Trump just have to grit their teeth because their voters have massive hard-ons for this guy. Going against Trump would surely be political suicide. Trump could **** a GOP Senator's wife in public and that Senator would still support him. Because of that, there'll never be enough support to get Trump removed from office.

Only poor health and a lone gunman on a grassy knoll serve as threats to Trump finishing his first term.
