A friend of mine got a job working for a dude who built bunkers for rich people back in the 90s. They were pretty sick from pics I saw of some and stories.

This American Life had a series of 2-3 episodes a few months ago about this. They were great.

Why would someone build a bunker in the 90's? In the 50's and early 60's sure, maybe in the 80's if you watched Red Dawn and Rocky IV too many times, maybe now. But why then?

He had these tapes about some dude who supposedly had super top secret clearance and talked about all this conspiratorial crap. He made me listen to it but I barely paid attention.

My take - they (along w everyone sane) know that thisisverybad.jpg and are doing anything and everything they can to bring the political cover to GOP to bring on Pres Pence ASAP.

Trump was a useful idiot to appease the seething masses and bring down HRC, but I'd imagine high level gov people are very uneasy at the amount of damage an untethered and mentally ill person could do from the WH.

Also btw - does this not seem absolutely surreal to anyone else? His horrible politics aside, we are talking about Twilight Zone stuff here. I just read the New York Mag transcript of him trying to understand asset forfeiture. He thinks at the level of a child. This is clear. Everyone knows it. It's like The Emperor Has No Clothes but in age of media omnipresence and we have an entire political party pretending it's fine. Something has just gotta give here.

The New Yorker had an article recently on the Kansas bunkers and other super-rich doomsday planners.

I built a house for a Y2K prepper around 2003. He was still trying to work his way through all the MRE's he had stockpiled.

His new house was designed (badly, by him) to be able to function completely off the grid. It was built on a 1/16th acre lot in the middle of a dense neighborhood.

Houses did work off grid for 12000 years. It helps to live somewhere where being outside doesn't kill you.
