The Presidency of Donald J. Trump: No smocking guns. The Presidency of Donald J. Trump: No smocking guns.

Not related to Trump but this may be the greatest reply on Twitter. LOL. For anyone that doesn't know, Rupert Murdoch's home was caught in the CA wildfires.

Trump probably didn't even realize this. The opportunity to violate a UN Security Council Resolution while pissing off the entire ME and infuriating liberals at home has got to be the biggest no-brainer of his administration.

Just a reminder that the Russian Sanctions law from this summer had an October deadline for Trump that he has blown by and apparently nobody is going to do anything about it

The House on Wednesday rejected an effort to impeach President Trump in a vote that nonetheless pointed to growing support on the left for driving the president out of office.

In a 364-58 vote, lawmakers tabled an impeachment resolution from Rep. Al Green (D-Texas). Every Republican voted with a majority of Democrats to turn away the resolution, while four Democrats voted present.

Yet despite the objections of their leadership, 58 Democrats voted in support of the resolution — an unexpectedly high tally, representing nearly one-third of the caucus. The group included lawmakers who haven’t necessarily been vocal about supporting impeachment.

Meh. Don't see the advantage in this kind of vote at all yet. Play the long game.

Yeah, no party putting forth a bunch of sham votes will ever take power.

You can justify literally anything with that take ("no party keeping sexual accusers around will ever take power, guess Dems need to stick with Franken"?). There's more work involved to show that sham votes are the reason Dems will take power, or whatever you're trying to claim.

Well, if they think it's a dumb symbolic vote and a waste of time they had the option of not voting instead of affirmatively supporting Trump. We talk a lot about how the Republicans are never going to impeach, but what will it take to even count on all the non-Republicans? Every day so far the answer has been a little more. I guess wait for Mueller, but he should have been impeached on emoluments on November 9th, 2016.

Can a President-elect even be impeached?
12-06-2017 , 06:31 PM
The advantages are clear. If you ask once, a bunch of democrats will say no. They will get feedback from people who want yes. Each time you ask you have a chance to convert some. The point of the votes is to move internal consensus. To normalize impeachment.

Ok, January 20th or w/e. But it seems like the first rule for impeachment is that there are no rules for impeachment, so maybe.

You go back to your constituents and tell them you opposed a widely despised presidency? What's to be gained by not taking a moral stance here even if it's just a symbolic vote?

Dems will be triangulating themselves all the way to prison camps.

I've heard the argument (from my newly ex-boss) that because they only charged Flynn with 1 relatively minor charge that means there is no there there

Today's news just further proves how wrong that is.

Of course, the guy had not heard anything about Moore being banned from a mall.

House Speaker Paul D. Ryan (R-Wis.) said Wednesday that congressional Republicans will aim next year to reduce spending on both federal health care and anti-poverty programs, citing the need to reduce America's deficit.

Uh, olds aren't going to pay. They are going to cut kids' and poors health care.

Ryan said that*he believes he has begun convincing President Trump in their private conversations about the need to rein in Medicare, the federal health program that primarily insures the elderly.

.....

“I think the president is understanding that choice and competition works everywhere in health care, especially in Medicare,” Ryan said. "...This has been my big thing for many, many years. I think it's the biggest entitlement we've got to reform.”
Perhaps it’s just a tactic to make themselves look generous wen they only rape the poor and children.
