Arizona might land in the D column, but TN will probably end up electing a Roy Moore clone. I don't know if these GOP senators calling it quits is good or not. The Senate so far has been where the bad bills go to die.

These Corker and Flake statements from during the election are on point! Not from the election? Oh, so they're from when, November? No? From late January, must be. Huh, from October?! Lol no way. Oh wait, really? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

He might have terrible views as a person, but he did say he would no longer be a coward, meaning he admitted to being a coward. That is a major step and to be one of the first fully off the ship is a good thing and does take some balls. What about those reformed white supremacists who now speak out against racism and try to reform others? Kill them all too?

It was a beautiful speech.

Exactly what I was thinking, if they're replaced by Trumpstains we're just going from bad to much worse.

I don't think it changes much, Flake already had a primary challenger that was outpolling him.

think everyone going **** them at flake/etc are misguided. You're gonna miss them when every single R elected to the senate in 18 is either a trump or a roy moore clone.

Uh, no, this is only true in theory. If people just decided to submit market sell orders to sell all the microsoft stock today, it would plummet to ~$0 and then very quickly recover. The sellers would get much less than the true value of microsoft.

Yeah but taxing unrealized gains makes little sense.

We have been flat footed. We remain so.

Is there some part of the Constitution that specifies you can't have other taxes?

Also I'm not in favor of taxing unrealized capital gains but you could probably define that as income in some way.

Flake's words were very good.

a pro rata stock dividend, where a shareholder received no actual cash or other property, and retained the same proportionate share of ownership of the corporation as was held prior to the dividend, was not taxable income to the shareholder within the meaning of the Sixteenth Amendment
An income tax imposed by the Revenue Act of 1916 on such dividend was unconstitutional, even where the dividend indirectly represented accrued earnings of the corporation.

Why doesn't love a little SCOTUS tax law in the AM
Yeah, but pro-rata stock dividends literally do not have any effect, and do not increase the value of the stock you hold.

It's basically the same thing as a stock split.

Regarding awval's constitutional theory, what about property taxes? If one argues something stupid like the government is charging a service fee or something instead of a tax on property, the same can be said for all wealth, which is all dependent on lots of government.
There aren't any federal property taxes, are there?

Agree. I think supporting anyone jumping ship is +EV. If everyone jumping ship is just met with **** you, you're evil scumbag who cares. Then nobody is going to want to jump ship just to have both sides hate them. Publicly support them imo, even if you know they're doing it because they no longer had anything to lose etc.

We aren't going to win this thing by making more enemies, we need to make more friends. You don't need to donate to Jeff, vote for him, or name a kid after him. But public support of him turning is obv +ev. Same with McCain, and Corker, and any Repub who wants to jump.

Replying to week-old posts in a high volume thread about current topics is really annoying. You think we've all been patiently waiting days for your brilliant insight about some trivial bull****?

Eh, the effects of income vs. wealth taxes would probably be quite different here.

Many high income tax states are able to do this because it's much harder to still earn the high income if you move to a low tax state. If you just have a pile of money and someone threatens to tax it, it would be much easier to move for avoidance purposes.

Spoiler:
****, I'm doing it again.

Good stuff, though I couldn't help to think while reading it that all of his lofty language would be met with replies like "WHAT A CUCK".
