My only point was that if you are trying to persuade a struggling American who is afraid for his job, to support immigration, even if it increases his risk, you shouldn't point to moral principles like the Statue of Liberty poem because he will resent that and it will backfire, especially if the one using that argument has nothing to fear from immigration.
People are so dense when it comes to immigration.

Immigration is proven beneficial for the economy.

It's also quite vital as birth rates decline below replacement level in developed countries. Immigrants are basically what will hold these economies together in the long run.

The delicious irony of the immigration debate is that the only thing that could possibly save these rural and suburban hell holes which are depopulating is an influx of immigrants.

In other words, will the last person to leave West Virginia please turn out the lights when they go?

Medvedev calling anyone weak and humiliated for surrendering executive power is ****ing hilarious.

Looks like Miller proved David Cross wrong. He knew the poem was there

Immigration is good for the economy. Immigration also saves refugees from being blown up in Syria.

However, demographic changes also drives more people onto the far right wing because of fear. And a more diverse population also lowers peoples support for socialized welfare goods, i.e a shift towards the right.

Therefore immigration is nice but also somewhat double edged for those of us who dont love the right wing growing stronger.

Ok, but it kind of seems like the implication of this is that liberals should become the right wing to prevent it from growing stronger.

Completely false. The opposite is true. Immigration is a huge win for the left as immigrants are far more likely to vote democratic.

President Donald Trump's White House Senior Adviser Steve Bannon, right, and National Security Adviser H.R. McMaster, left, arrive for a news conference with President Donald Trump. Associated Press
General John Kelly may be trying to institute military-style discipline in the West Wing, but that hasn’t put a stop to the civil war happening over President Donald Trump’s National Security Council. If anything, the dawning of the Kelly era may have accelerated that war.

The national security adviser, H.R. McMaster, has removed three NSC aides loyal to Trump aide Steve Bannon in the last three weeks. Bannon allies inside and outside the administration have fired back, starting rumors that McMaster is on his way out the door and documenting the Army general’s deviations from President Trump.

The latest move against Bannonites came Wednesday when McMaster fired the NSC’s senior director for intelligence, Ezra Cohen-Watnick. McMaster’s previous attempt to remove Cohen-Watnick from the staff had been blocked by Bannon and Trump himself. A White House statement confirmed Cohen-Watnick’s removal, saying McMaster is “confident that Ezra will make many further significant contributions to national security in another position in the administration.” The news was first reported by Jordan Schachtel, a former editor at Breitbart, which Bannon ran before joining the Trump campaign last year.

The rage is strong with this one.

We know for a fact that more people join the far right wing movements with increased demographic changes, which is my claim. You are talking about how immigration would create a net increase in left wing votes, which doesnt touch upon my claim. When you are discussing scienctific results its important to have a sharp distinction between terms that mean very different things.

WTF is it with this guy that he's never fireable? This is Mike Flynn's buddy, who worked as a bridge between the White House and the Intelligence Community. He's one of the two mysterious WH workers who let Devin Nunes in to get some kind of (hacked?) FBI intel on Mike Flynn, perhaps what he told the Feds or if he was flipped. All we know for sure is Ezra brought Nunes into a SCIF within the WH to view IC data, and Nunes emerged from the meeting with "classified info" that implicates Susan Rice for participating in "illegal unmasking." He then spent 2 weeks delaying all testimony about Mike Flynn (including the most damaging from Sally Yates) in his House Intel Committee, and was forced to recuse himself as Chair. He later violated the recusal at least two times.

McMaster tried to remove Ezra immediately after he replaced Mike Flynn as NSA and that's why Trump and Bannon pushed back hard.

Geez, this guyyyyyyy...

So it looks like Flake is the first guy to calculate that exiting the trump train will give him the best chance in 2018. He won't be the last. I'm sure Trump and the Hannity wing of the party will take that well. 2018 and primaries are going to be crazy. 2020 presidential primary should be fun too.

This is so idiotic. At least some of the leaks are clearly orchestrated, and gives him a free roll in terms of plausibly denying it ever happened and calling in a shot at cnn at the same time. If cnn buys it, boom 4-5 totally in-character tweets about it are ready to go. It's basically a parody account presidency.

Focus on the corruption dammit. If nothing else, we need precedent and political will to establish much better boundaries between money and government power.
