The Presidency of Donald J. Trump: No smocking guns. The Presidency of Donald J. Trump: No smocking guns.

Republicans trail Democrats by 7 percentage points on the generic congressional ballot, according to a new POLITICO/Morning Consult poll, the Democratic Party's greatest advantage on the generic ballot since the poll began asking the question this past spring.

The survey, conducted last Thursday through Saturday, shows a generic Democrat leading a generic Republican, 44 percent to 37 percent, with 19 percent of registered voters undecided. The two parties were tied, 40 percent apiece, in the previous week’s poll.

I think Cuomo should just say no, this is a TV SHOW here buddy, not your vlog for incoherent psychobabble about cotton shirts. At least that's BillO would have done.
I think he did just fine. He gave Butowski just enough rope to hang himself, then used his own words back at him.

The important thing is how Cuomo came off to the Trump crowd, because this will be chopped up and played in part to them in a negative light. Chris Cuomo did a great job of looking nice.

Yeah, needed a job and had a crush on that lady. Poor black man can't control himself.

The problem with this story is that Rod Wheeler does seem extremely shady and there are good reasons to doubt his credibility. He voluntarily took this job to help smear Rich and it seems at worst, Butowski and others pushed the envelope a bit further than he wanted (saying he had personal knowledge vs. sources had told him).

The whole saga is obviously crazy and everyone involved is a horrible person, so I think the it would be wise to not rush to support Wheeler.

Butowski is full of tells. He's a terrible liar.

That's standard GOP policy for at least 20 years though. Deficits matter until Republicans are in charge.

That's a Fox/RWNJ trap. Don't fall for it. We're not dealing with a Butowski vs Wheeler issue. We're fighting for truth against bull****.

I don't think I've seen "just joking" used so much in so little time by so many people as the GOP these last few months.

This appears to be the new go to for trumpkins. Everything stupid, evil and/or exposed was just a joke.

It's amazing that a defendant in a lawsuit would choose to go on TV and answer to a lawsuit without a lawyer present. Hell, it's amazing that he went on TV to address this at all.

Think Cuomo did a good job here. Though I think anybody could do a good job deconstructing that. None of that stands up against the slightest amount of scrutiny.

I haven't read or watched that much GG, but it seems to me likely that it's not really about GG that much but about significant differences in posters here in politics and arguing about GG is convenient and more polite than arguing about each other.

"I think Putin pays Trump. (laughter) No guys, I swear to God I'm DEAD SERIOUS!"

"OK fine, but what's said here, stays here. We're a family."

[News story of conversation]

"Didn't happen."

[No, for real. It's on tape]

"WE WERE JUST JOKING! Hahaha...(nervous laughter)"

Rush Limbaugh really pioneered this move when he claimed that he was totes just joking about Sandra Fluke being all slutty. Since then, the deplorables have learned that they can just come out and air their toxic views without dogwhistles and insist they're just joking/trolling/ironic. The whole alt-right movement has been built on guys repurposing Neo-Nazi imagery as hilarious memes that triggers libs. Recent example is this pewdiepie kid dressing up as Hitler and then whining about how the left can't take a joke.

This can actually be an effective strategy and white liberals pull this **** off all the time. The problem is that conservatives reliably have no idea about how irony works or how jokes are constructed, which kind of ruins things and can be pretty funny to watch, ironically enough.

"You have to understand the context here Chris. When I said the President read the article, he loved it, and he's highlighted lines he wants you to emphasis when you're on TV, you have to understand that "the President" means our drug dealer. Crazy guy, naming himself "The President", but what are you going to do? "Read the article" is common drug slang for picking up a shipment. Come on Chris, we all know this! "Loved it"? Obviously my drug dealer liked the quality of cocaine and you can see that in the next phrase "highlighted lines". See Chris, it's clear as day. The "emphasis while on TV" part? Means selling the drugs to Hollywood. So you can see Chris, what I clearly meant was me and Chris Wheeler were plainly buying drugs from the Colombian cartel and selling it to Hollywood and definitely not concocting a story, all because Wheeler was broke, broke! Let me reemphasize that again, he was broke!"

Were these protest no votes, as in "it's bull**** Comey was fired" or "Trump really shouldn't be nominating anyone given that he's under investigation"? Or did these people have problems with Wray specifically?

This is the only statement I could find from one of the five, but I didn't look very hard.
"In his public and private statements, Chris Wray failed to oppose government backdoors into Americans' personal devices, or to acknowledge the facts about encryption," Wyden said. "That it isn't about liberty versus security, it's about more security versus less security."
