Mr. Priebus accompanied Mr. Trump on Air Force One for a day trip to Long Island as his fate was being decided. Making for a tense flight, his rival, Anthony Scaramucci, the communications director who had publicly vowed to force Mr. Priebus’s resignation, was also on the plane and in the motorcade.

chief of staff is huge. and to give it to a general with no political connections, is so so foolhardy, but trump wants to surround himself with yes-men and he imagines generals know how to take orders

We figured out Mooch's motive. Become such a disgusting human being his wife leaves him and takes a much smaller settlement so she can be rid of him ASAP and not be associated with him.

Lol, you guys ponied the BBC and
NPR. It's new chief of staff day! Who needs those GOP establishment losers.

This ought to widen the rift forming between Trump and the gop.

I know it's an important job, but isn't it usually for hacks and cronies? Cabinet secretary to CoS seems like a step down and certainly a less independent position. Has there even been a former secretary in that role?

LOL Reince.

They could have done a lot of things, of course this would be a lot worse then what they did.

Sure, I get the anxiety to an extent. But what was Reince Priebus but an incompetent with bad political connections to a gleefully malevolent political party?

You make it sound like John Kelly is replacing a dedicated and proven virtuous civil servant instead of some bozo political apparatchik whose most notable qualification is that he's friends with Paul Ryan, himself only really known for being able to complete P90X.

It's for the best political genius in the building. Someone who knows everyone else, can work with anyone, and who can help shape policy. He's the President right-hand man and in charge of the West Wing.

Probably not a general.
