If Trump offered sacrificing Jeff Sessions so they could move to whatever is next, tax reform or something, I can see the logic. Trump is arguing to the right that their heros need to be sacrificed for the cause of limiting the Trump family's legal liabilities. What else is he really offering them? Obviously the GOP establishment, the GOP caucus in Congress are feckless and dumb but surely they want something out of this besides being deeply unpopular and getting caught up in Trump's various scandalous escapades.
The problem is that there's nothing to gain for Republicans who want to go after Trump. Going after him just guarantees more Republican civil war and so selling out any principles you might have remaining at least gives you hope.
There's basically two types of Republican when it comes to Trump:
1. True Trump slappies: The kind of people who think that not raising the debt ceiling will usher in an era of prosperity that will permanently end the Democratic Party. They believe all that stuff about the "deep state" and would give their left gonad to be in the Hillary Clinton firing squad.
2. Trump Realists: People who know that Trump is (or could be) a disaster, but who are waiting for a "tipping point"--a Trump move so obviously unpopular that it will bring him down.
I think group 2 is smaller than group 1. There are probably enough in that group to vote for impeachment in the Senate if the crime is serious enough.
Is firing Sessions/Mueller enough? It's pretty close, imo.
