Well, no. They were told to prepare for it. Then last year Carter declared it done and trans people could openly serve, but allowed the Pentagon a year long review on how that would affect things. Exactly one year later, Mattis said they needed more time. Deadline is now effectively up and this was the result of whatever has been going on for the past year and change.

The Obama administration waved their magic wand, said the magic words, and you applauded. Nothing actually happened, but mere words were good enough.

That's not how life works, though.

There is a lot of anti-Trump sentiment among the lawyers in the Justice Department. That's because lawyers tend to respect the law, norms, due process, etc. If Trump wants more respect from lawyers in the Justice Department, maybe he should take the radical ****ing step of doing something to earn it.
