It's a weirdly American thing. Not sure about Canada but it's unheard of in the rest of the Anglosphere. Would be considered a very weird thing to do here. From an outsider's perspective, there's an obvious downside in that it creates confusion about who is meant when that name is used. And I'm struggling for upsides that don't involve a mild case of narcissism. So it seems like a weird thing to do to me, but I'm aware it's reasonably common.

McCain is pure human scum. He is trying to get permission from his doctors, which are of course paid by his ****ing senate healthcare, to travel to Washington to take healthcare away from millions.

We might be able to debate the bolded part, but as far as the War On Christmas, it exists nowhere but in the conservative mind. Liberals don't care one iota about the ****ing nativity scene or the ****ing tree in the mall or who says which holiday greeting to who.
