The story won't end today. It won't end for years. But the right is slowly, incrementally working themselves into full Iran-Contra mode: that thing we denied and lampooned you for believing happened actually happened just as you said, but in the end we cavorted with a hostile power for the betterment of America, really you should thank us. It's like that Narcissist Prayer joke meme from earlier: that didn't happen --> if it did, we didn't know --> it wasn't that bad --> actually we did it, you should be happy about it.

It may take months to get there, but we'll get there. Then it's going to be over to the justice system, Congress, and voters to keep anyone honest. How much hope you have for all of that I suppose is a matter of judgement. Remember the GOP controlled Congress is already reading from the Narcissist' Prayer-book so they're really ahead of the game here.
Taking a step back, the stakes on it have become so absurd now. In the Iran Contra you had the fear of Communists taking over a country and the spectre of communism creeping around the world, so sure they did wrong but, you know, the world threat of communism. The stakes for Trump possibly colluding with a foreign power was........... 4 more years of Obama's policies. It's like that speech writer who had the article comparing the 2016 election to flight 93 and the Conservatives had one last chance to storm the cockpit before the entire nation fell to...........slightly higher taxes on the rich. It's just becoming ridiculous.

Obviously. I am clearly not saying any of this is justified. It squares with everything else we know about the modern right in America. I'm just trying to explain Wookie's understandable first-blush wonderment; they are on the verge of moving on from denial to accept/justify. It's where they are headed, and 45% of the country or whatever will believe the moral case about the urgency to defeat evil Hillary Clinton deeply in their hearts just like they all loved Reagan for selling munitions to Iran so he could have a slush fund to fight commies.

Liberals will shake their fist at the sky at the great unwinding of the grand national consensus, of the naked partisanship, of the surprising malfeasance of the GOP. Isn't this like, well, every national debate going back a long time now? The Iraq War, the housing crash/economic crisis, threats of government shut down, health care, the Merrick Garland thing. Rinse, repeat, twas ever thus.

Chiefsplanet is melting down atm.

lol he fell for the equivalent of a Nigerian email scam

Remember guys, the naive/rookie excuse does not work with veteran Manafort knowing about the meeting and its purpose. And sure enough, Manafort was CCd (along with Jared). Fredo was really only left with the "Yeah, I did it. So what?" line.

BUT HIS EMAILZ!

At the affrontery of liberals for thinking this email chain matters?

If this isn't considered a smoking gun, then I don't know what we could ever expect to uncover that would be. Diaper don going with the 'yea I did it, so what' defense. If that works, on this, its over.

What was Diaper Don thinking, all those years ago, having just been slapped to the ground by daddy in front of his friends? In a dark corner of his mind, he must be savoring his revenge.

The best revenge is going to jail?

"If it’s what you say I love it especially later in the summer" is the quote of the summer. I'm using it for everything till September.

GOP is petrified of saying anything right now. So is everyone around the WH and administration. You know who else is petrified into silence? DONALD ****ING SENIOR! The guy no one can get to STFU about anything.

These folks have literally no idea how many other bomby parts of the story the NYT has left to run.

Which also shows there's more to hide about this June 9th meeting. If not, they would be able to relax a bit knowing the whole story has already been published.

OMG, Trump Jr is at the top of foxnews.com

EMAIL TRAIL: Trump son releases exchange with contact claiming Russia gov’t sought to back dad
07-11-2017 , 12:20 PM
hopefully they postpone jr's treason trial until such time as drumpf bigly loses his pardoning power
07-11-2017 , 12:24 PM
Breitbart yesterday:

New York Times Has Neither Seen Nor Read ‘Russia Email’ to Donald Trump, Jr.

OOPS. Some of the 4k+ comments are pretty fun to read.
07-11-2017 , 12:25 PM

There you have it folks, disturbed. And Donnie jr is also new to politics. And why would the Russians even set up such a meeting if the person didn't even know anything about Clinton?

Holy **** Graham already trying to poke some holes in this. We're ****ed.

BBC news speculate that Ny Times already had the email and possibly wanted Jrs lawyer to confirm it before publishing, that might have been why he was so quick to release it himself.

He released the email because the Times was about to release it. Its cool though, republicans are still talking about how this is just a big distraction and nobody cares about russia and we need to investigate more before drawing any conclusions.

But yeah if he goes on TV to discuss he's actively doing the opposite of what even a 1L would advise
