It's hard to separate Trump from GOP anymore, since they are so mashed together. He's a rubber stamp for them, and they believe the promises he made.

Anyway, the big problem is that Trump promised the public the opposite of what he promised GOP. We're seeing the results of that incompetence right now, these last weeks. The Healthcare battle, as fierce as it is, should not be a surprise to the people who knew he overpromised at the time, or anyone who knows Trump well enough to spot specific lies.
I must confess though, for a long time I believed that Donald Trump lied like everybody else, just more frequently. I never thought he disregarded reality enough to lie equally as often about important things. What a sin.
