But aren't you still feeling hope under the illusion we're not done? They definitely know how to string people along.

Andrew Johnson, Lincoln's successor, fought bitterly to undermine reconstruction and the admittance to the Union of states which would eventually ratify the 14th Amendment. He was eventually impeached.

This one is pre civil war, but James Buchanan (from Pennsylvania!) intervened with the SC in an effort to get them to rule the Missouri Compromise was unconstitutional.

You somehow missed Warren Harding, the confirmed WOAT

Yes, he barred blacks from civil service jobs. Was just pulling names off the top of my head. Point stands that USA #1 has endured some pitiful federal leadership for much of its history.

Talking about bad presidents?

Nixon - SE Asia, Chile
Reagan - Central America, beginning to dismantle the New Deal
G.W.Bush - deregulation and lack of enforcement of wall street, transfer of wealth to wealthy, Iraq, effing up Afghanistan too

Did any of them commit treason?

Grover Cleveland raped a woman and had her committed to a mental institution when she accused him of being the father of her unwanted child and he got two terms.

Obamacare took my insurance away. I was in a high risk pool for people who couldn't get private insurance due to pre-existing conditions. Once Obamacare passed, that doesn't apply to anyone, so they folded the plan. My new insurance was better though.

Non-consecutive, tho. That was his punishment.

I think he wanted Hillary to enter the presidency in as strong a position as possible and thought a relatively low key response was the right way to achieve that goal. In other words, I think he was trying to be pragmatic. The error was that he badly misjudged the likelihood of Trump winning. He made the same mistake we all made.
Hillary was also close to a 70% favorite to win the election up until about a week to go. That had to be a pretty large factor.

If Obama took action against Russia, and tried to force states to secure their election systems even if they didn't want to, Trump would have been blasting him at every rally for rigging the election for Hillary, and that might have gotten Trump more votes.

It put Obama into an absurdly difficult spot when the Republican leaders shrugged and said whatever. I think blaming him for this is both unproductive and slightly unfair (he was POTUS, he could have done better, so it's not out of bounds to question what he did)... But again, it's unproductive. Donald Trump is president, Mitch McConnell is about to **** over America again, and Democrats are wasting time criticizing Obama?
This may have also been why Trump started talking about everything being rigged in the middle part of the fall. Because the Russians told him (or told one of his advisers) that Obama and the IC had the scoop on the collusion and were about the sound the alarm. So the Trump gang had to immediately pivot hard to trying to make it seem like the game was rigged against them, when really it was the opposite.

Pretty sure the drunk grant story is fake news at least in terms of what's claimed here.

I never heard the cleveland story before. After that he married a 21 year old. More WIM than I have that's for sure sheesh.

Grant did drink but it wasn't near the problem that it got played up to be by the Southern Democrats who just wanted to slander the guy that kicked their asses.

You might be thinking of Wilson, although there might be several presidents who kicked black folks out of federal employment.

Get involved in local politics. Gotta start at the micros and grind your way up.

Alternatively, be rich and have great contacts.

Good news: I know tons of old rich people.

Bad news: I hate them.
