The Presidency of Donald J. Trump: No smocking guns. The Presidency of Donald J. Trump: No smocking guns.

Since President Trump won the Republican nomination, the majority of his companies’ real estate sales are to secretive shell companies that obscure the buyers’ identities, a USA TODAY investigation has found.

Over the last 12 months, about 70% of buyers of Trump properties were limited liability companies – corporate entities that allow people to purchase property without revealing all of the owners’ names. That compares with about 4% of buyers in the two years before.
Hard to tell if this is corruption or just people afraid to be associated with Trump.

Why not both?

And I've got to say even if the country and the world fade all the doomsday TRUMPocalypse scenarios the worst thing to come of this will be the complete erosion of norms regarding the President's, and inevitably all politician's, personal financial affairs.

If this isn't brought to heel quickly I think we're in for a long line of pretty flagrant theft from the the public with a press that will be scared to report on it and a DOJ that won't prosecute it.

Bold need not apply.

I suppose that's true, and most Presidents in my lifetime have had graft scandals in their administrations.

Watching this series of farcical testimony one can sadly only conclude one thing; America is a joke and your oft lauded constitution is wholly and completely meaningless.

Anyone who called Kamala Harris hysterical should be driven from public life. Trump aid will get high fives though.

Hysterical is code for "I don't like the gender of the person who is speaking." Especially when they are a person of color.

Congressional Democrats to file emoluments lawsuit against Trump
Nearly 200 Democratic members of Congress agreed to file a lawsuit Wednesday against President Trump alleging that by retaining interests in a global business empire he has violated constitutional restrictions on taking gifts and benefits from foreign leaders.

The lead senator filing the complaint in federal district court, Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.), said Tuesday that the lawsuit has already drawn more congressional plaintiffs — 196 — than any legal action previously taken against a president. No Republicans had joined in the lawsuit so far, although they will be invited to do so, Blumenthal said.

Boycott anyone who does business with a Trump imo. A few on that list might be unfair, but it's worth a look.

this has to be a big deal, no?

I still feel like Trump disapproval rating and a "real president" disapproval rating are two different things. We live in make believe land now so who knows what kind of "i don't approve of him but will still vote for him" dichotomy exists.

Not that I'm basing this on a ton of thought and deep reading, but the VA "whistleblower protection" law is really a "make it easy to fire federal employees law" and expect more "whistleblower protection" from the Trump administration.

Zephyr Teachout is a law prof with a book on the history of corruption in the US, very sharp. She's counsel in suit against Trump over emoulments violation and is on the most recent ezra kline podcast. Argued pretty strongly that Trump is way out of line constitutionally. Would love to see a court force him to dispose of his assets.

It's a funny contrast with dan carlin, who takes vaguely and generally about corruption, when she's clear and specific and has concrete proposals. Discussion is in 2nd half of show.

Pretty sure Daddy Orange about fire Mueller. Kellyanne posting on Twitter in the past few hours about how Mueller hired people that didn't want Daddy to become president.

You can pretty much count on every single person that voted trump. They'll hate whoever the D candidate is more. The R media will be sure to that.

It looks like trump gave mattis control of the military; they're sending more troops to afghanistan. Their solutions are always "more military" ugh.

Qatar looks like a setup to war (I'll guess Iran since that's what the R's want) and Saudis bribed trump more than Qatar can. Sure there's a military base in Qatar but you think Trump gives a **** about that? Neither do I.

One of the things that really pisses me off about Trumpkins is the fact that a lot of military will be put in unnecessary danger because Daddy Orange can't bother to do something pesky like try to keep peace.

It's going to end up being another Iraq/Afghanistan where thousands of troops will die. For what? Bad approval ratings?

I think it's very very unlikely we attack Qatar. Yemen and Iran sure, we can bomb poor people.

That's some good news. Good for them for standing up for fairness. I wonder if Trump would choose his assets over the oval office if he was forced to make a choice?

Anybody have a good article about the difference between white pride and black pride?

I'm trying to explain to a friend the difference but I can't figure out the correct way to phrase it.
