IMO mike pesca from slate's daily podcast is a great talent, and slate's Trumpcast gets the award for top podcast.

Russia’s cyberattack on the U.S. electoral system before Donald Trump’s election was far more widespread than has been publicly revealed, including incursions into voter databases and software systems in almost twice as many states as previously reported.

In Illinois, investigators found evidence that cyber intruders tried to delete or alter voter data. The hackers accessed software designed to be used by poll workers on Election Day, and in at least one state accessed a campaign finance database. Details of the wave of attacks, in the summer and fall of 2016, were provided by three people with direct knowledge of the U.S. investigation into the matter. In all, the Russian hackers hit systems in a total of 39 states, one of them said.

This is true, mostly because I feel they are generally too soft whenever an elected official comes on and the only interesting part is before an interview.

FWIW Vietor's podcast is much, much better in this regard and he's had a few standout interviews (ex. Greenwald was A+ because of their history and differences that led to a great discussion).

Unlike DJT, we don't take personal hatred and drag it with us to the grave regardless of truth. As with Comey, we can overlook issues we disagree with in order to address larger, more important issues because we have morals and values. We want the country to succeed and could care less if someone else isn't maximizing their time as POTUS for personal gain.

No wonder Trump didn't take a salary. He makes that 400k the large PR story and rapes the country for hundreds of millions (or more) behind the scenes. Rinse/repeat for all his sinister motives to achieve unlimited power, undying loyalty, unanimous respect in addition to that unnerving amount of money.

The main takeaways: While most voters stuck with their party in last year’s election, the white voters who switched from Obama in 2012 to Trump in 2016 were motivated by their views on immigration, blacks and Muslims — and, to a lesser extent, by their views of the economy and their own financial circumstances.

Trump cobbled together an electoral coalition comprising voters who hold disparate views on economic issues, according to the study, while Democratic voters agree on most policies.

“Voters who experienced increased or continued economic stress were inclined to have become more negative about immigration and terrorism, demonstrating how economic pressures coincided with cultural concerns to produce an outcome that surprised most of us,” said Henry Olsen, the project director for the Voter Study Group and a senior fellow at the Ethics and Public Policy Center.
Quote:
First, what didn’t matter: Sides finds that, despite Trump’s deviation from GOP orthodoxy on trade, there wasn’t a “statistically significant relationship between trade attitudes and vote choice in either election.” And while Trump voters had more negative perceptions of the economy, that had about the same impact on voters’ decisions as in 2012.

“What stands out most, however, is the attitudes that became more strongly related to the vote in 2016: attitudes about immigration, feelings toward black people and feelings toward Muslims,” Sides writes in his essay. “This pattern fits the prevailing discourse of the two campaigns and the increased attention to issues involving ethnic, racial and religious minorities in 2016.”

Looking back at 2012, the path for Trump to convert some Obama voters on these issues was clear. Among whites who voted for Obama four years ago, about a third already held views on these cultural attitudes that align more with Trump’s rhetoric. Thirty-seven percent of white Obama voters had a negative view of Muslims and 33 percent said illegal immigrants were “mostly a drain” on society.

Just watched some of that open meeting with the Trump staff all making him out to be some kind of L. Ron Hubbard type of cult leader.

Pretty obvious that they're setting him up for his inevitable Reichstag moment where something horrible happens and bulletproof superhero President Trump can pretend to swoop in and save the day as the sycophants who work for him surround him with adulation, thus making otherwise rational people turn into full-on Nazis Republicans.

Pretty mortifying news about the young man who was held in North Korea. He's in a coma and has been for over a year. He's being released now and will be flown on a medical flight to the USA.

It's cool, according to the President of the United States, an attack on the very fabric of US democracy is a nothing story.

The New York Public Theater’s production of Shakespeare’s “Julius Caesar”— featuring a decidedly Trump-esque version of the doomed Roman statesman — has sparked a mounting outcry: Right-leaning media outlets condemned the portrayal as vile and immoral; Donald Trump Jr. tweeted criticism, questioning whether the work was taxpayer-funded, and corporate donors Delta Air Lines and Bank of America made national headlines when they announced that they would withdraw their financial support from the theater.

“No matter what your political stance may be, the graphic staging of ‘Julius Caesar’ at this summer’s Free Shakespeare in the Park does not reflect Delta Air Lines’ values,” Delta said in tweets Sunday.

But there was no such backlash in 2012, when a collaboration between the Acting Company and the Guthrie Theater in Minneapolis — which also received financial backing from Delta — mounted a contemporary remake of “Julius Caesar” in which the title character appeared to reference President Barack Obama. Caesar’s character, of course, is brutally slain in the play.

I think there is also good value in their insights into how the government functions underneath the surface, especially now that we are being run by incompetent, corrupt, liars who will constantly try to spin their incompetence as how things are supposed to run.

I forgot about that kid. The fact we allowed him to to be held captive for that long is mind blowing. I wonder how long the US knew about him being in a coma.

True, it's informative to hear their shock at how the Trump WH functions. Also, it's instructive when they have on guests who they knew but did not work closely with. Also, they tend to be more open about things than old, retired political types, and it's refreshing to get the staff perspective rather than reps/senators/agency directors, etc.

My main point is that Lovett is a better on air talent, but shows are often better with a "straight man" to go with someone more outrageous. See most morning radio shows.
