If by "seems alright" you mean "is incredibly irresponsible and possibly violates professional ethics rules", then you're right.
He cannot properly assess what if any legal jeopardy they might be under unless they fully disclose everything they did, said, and witnessed. They should not disclose this info to him because (a) since he doesn't represent him, the conversations aren't protected by attorney-client privilege and (b) because he does represent someone else, the lawyer has a clear conflict of interest in making sure his client gets off.
It's easy to say that innocent people don't need lawyers, but that's simply not true, especially in ongoing situations where good legal advice can help ensure that you don't mess up in the future. Trump's attorney is basically telling a bunch of people about to walk through a mine field that they shouldn't bother putting on their helmets and flak jackets.
