State Dept. Dissent Cable on Trump’s Ban Draws 1,000 Signatures

Quote:
The cable wended its way through dozens of American embassies around the world, quickly emerging as one of the broadest protests by American officials against their president’s policies. And it is not over yet.

By 4 p.m. on Tuesday, the letter had attracted around 1,000 signatures, State Department officials said, far more than any dissent cable in recent years. It was being delivered to management, and department officials said more diplomats wanted to add their names to it.

The State Department has 7,600 Foreign Service officers and 11,000 civil servants.
Maybe he'll fire them all for disloyalty.

You are living in some kind of The West Wing fantasy world where compromise is rewarded. That **** is gone, man. There is zero upside to playing nice with the Republicans at this point. How many examples do you need to realize they are never going to meet you half way?

Voters have already shown they don't care. The Republicans blocked a Supreme Court nominee for a year and it didn't hurt them at all. If anything, voters have been encouraging this kind of behavior.

Look, I understand the desire for good governance. It's a noble starting point. But you can't let it cloud reality. If the Democrats keep turning the other cheek, the Republicans are going to keep pulling their pants down.
HRC playing nice probably cost her the Presidency.

I like how everybody had their Gorsuch #content ready to go and is just shoveling it onto the internet as fast as they can right now.

The only positive thing I will say about Gorsuch is that he's written decisions curtailing how much power executive branch agencies can bring to bear. So long as he remains ideologically pure that may be a very important belief for him to hold in the next 4-8 years.

The Dems should and hopefully will block anyone but Garland.
01-31-2017 , 09:31 PM
How frightened was the rightwing when Gorsuch talked about "independence and courage" as important judicial traits?

he meant independent of other judges when he lays down pro-christian rulings

I wonder what % of people believe those "fake news" ******ed claims?

Has to be lower than the % that approve of the ban ?

I know its popular on the internet because of vocal conspiracy nuts.

But this has to be another bad look for the president that he feels he needs to ban mainstream medias that dont lick his boots

Don't be fooled by him looking nice with wifey and speaking politely. Those are often the scariest ones.

The absence of debates, primaries and town halls will make this year a long slog for cable news channels hoping to maintain the highs of 2016. But Mr. Trump’s frenetic first week and a half as president has given the networks some momentum. In total day audience, Fox News, MSNBC and CNN have seen jumps of 30 percent, 7 percent and 5 percent in January versus their averages last year, according to Nielsen.

Trump's 24/7 government reality TV takeover is the best thing to ever happen to cable news and all the networks secretly love him IMO.

Thought trump was gonna make it a sideshow like bush did and nominate a non judge.

So who gets charged with murder, Trump, Bannon or Miller? This family's story is enraging.

It's like he he literally following the facist playbook out in the open and nobody is paying any attention. How are there not stories on every news station tracing the history of facism and showing the parallels?

Perhaps Trump is helping them because they put all his surrogates on and even hired his former campaign manager as an "analyst" when he was still on Trump's payroll?

Meh, I think Chevron Deference is important for environmental or other very technical fields. My immigration law practitioner friends seem happy about the possibility of it being curtailed, though.

My concerns for effective environmental regulation might become moot soon, though. I read today that Baby Gaetz is working on a bill to completely dismantle the EPA.

It wouldn't make any difference if they did. Most people don't even know what fascism is, and Nazis are an abstract concept divorced from actual history, only to serve as central casting bad guys in Hollywood movies. I honestly think you'd reach more people by drawing parallels with Voldemort.

And how do they propose to do that with 48 Senate votes and 10 of those up for reelection in states Trump won bigly?
