The Presidency of Donald J. Trump: No smocking guns. The Presidency of Donald J. Trump: No smocking guns.

Pence is would be better than Trump and it's not even close, if only because he would have a steadier hand during a crisis.
06-07-2017 , 10:51 AM
also because he doesn't lie with every word he speaks

Takes a special kind of person to insist other people aren't people while taking $ for your own pocket that's supposed to be going to childrens cancer.

Rotten apples don't fall far from rotten trees.

The stated reason for the hearing is to discuss reauthorizing sec. 702 of the FISA act (because SUDDENLY the privacy of Americans is of paramount importance to the GOP), I assume those are his prepared remarks in defense of that.

hahaha he lies a lot bro, either that or he's been kept in an actual closet since Trump took office
06-07-2017 , 10:59 AM
Why do these guys feel like withholding information from the American people is the appropriate thing to do?
06-07-2017 , 10:59 AM
So neither of these guys going to say anything in public hearing. zzzz
06-07-2017 , 11:00 AM
Hearing is already a joke. Coats refusing to answer questions publicly about Russia probe.

We need to temper ourselves people. We are never going to get anything straight out of any clown who willingly works for Cheeto Benito, ever. Stop expecting it imo

Uh he's been lying about everything ever since the VP debate in which he just said all the terrible things Trump said didn't happen.

damn, Rubio picking up the line of questions. good for him. orange menace going to be pissed he paid for his dinner last night.

edit: respect to Rubio. that was awesome.
06-07-2017 , 11:20 AM
rubio is asking "has anybody in WH ever asked you how to influence an investigation," rather than, "has anybody in WH ever come to you and made an effort to influence an investigation"

they even had to ask him to repeat the question 3-4 times for clarity

"I never take any notes" god what a ****ing tool

The narrative six months ago was about how Trump's support was deeper and more fervent than most realized.

What was underrated, however, was the depth and fervency of the contempt for Trump, or rather the effect that that contempt would have on his presidency. It reminds me of the scene from the Sopranos when Junior criticizes Richie for being unable to rally support for whacking Tony. The problem, as Junior put it, was that Richie "couldn't ****ing sell it. He's not respected."

That same problem is a fundamental impediment to Trump's presidency. He isn't respected. Not by Democrats, not by the media, and not even by most in his own party. And that lack of respect means that he can't sell anything. There is no cost to opposing Trump, only upside.

I'm not saying that he deserves respect. He brought all of this on himself by being a clown. And his inability to implement key parts of his own agenda of course has perverse benefits for the country because the agenda was crazy to begin with. So what are we left with? A president who will make SCOTUS appointments that are mostly in line with appointments that other GOP presidents would have made. A president who will do whatever damage he can through crazy executive orders and other executive action that does not require cooperation. Meanwhile, we all sit around biting our nails until 2020, hoping to fade some sort of international crisis that Trump is wildly unprepared to handle.

The frustrating part is that this was entirely predictable.

Here's a fun bet for all you gamb0lers tomorrow at PredictIt:

Will James Comey mention "obstruction of justice" in Thursday's Senate hearing?

And it's not "Will James Comey accuse Trump of obstructing justice?"

but

"Will James Comey say one of the following phrases: "obstruction of justice", "obstruct justice", "obstructs justice", "obstructing justice", or "obstructed justice" in any context?"

LOL

And the reason for these public hearings is what? If nobody feels like they can speak about anything important in an open hearing, then don't bother boring us with insignificant crap. You can do that behind closed doors too.

great sopranos scene there

I view Pence as someone who has a wrong but sincere belief that he is making decisions for the benefit of the country, as opposed to Trump, all of whose actions are motivated by instant gratification and self aggrandizement. Perhaps naive, but it is important for me to feel that my country's institutions will not allow an incompetent cult leader like Trump to remain in charge for long.
Re the bold. Does not compute.

loool rogers just destroyed trump in an example of complete self-pwn from susan collins, she was like "how come you provided an unclassified IC report about russian meddling to obama in january but you wouldnt grant a request from trump for intel about collusion with russians?"

"we grant all requests from the president unless we believe that we're being directed to do something immoral, illegal, or unethical"

she said "thank you"

she phrased the question one way and it didn't really make any sense, so he asked her to clarify/re-phrase. basically it seemed like she was trying to paint the picture that the IC is biased against trump (?) because it cooperated with obama's intel request in january about russian electin meddling but later refused trump's request for intel about russian collusion. i mean clearly they're not going to provide trump with certain classified intel related to collusion between his campaign and russians because it compromises their investigation. hilariously, i think she legit didn't know/realize that.

edit: by rogers responding the way he did, he basically confirmed that trump and/or his senior admin members asked the NSA to do something they considered "illegal, immoral, or unethical" when they made a request for intel wrt russian collusion
