it's an unprecedented situation, in some senses. For example, I don't think the laws regarding retention of communication were written around the idea of twitter existing. Him deleting official tweets seems likely a violation of records keeping laws, but do comments count as part of the record? Who knows?

Meh I hate dude as much as anyone but I think this is a pretty big reach. Especially since deleting a tweet is de facto impossible. It is still technically his personal Twitter account well I assume but don't really know how/where that comes in to play. Is one of the many interesting circumstances and questions that will be brought up as technology continues to evolve.

Some of you guys are giving Trump way too much credit. You are acting like he's got the popularity of JFK. He is NOT that popular. He didn't win the popular vote and half the US adult population didn't even bother to vote. He's at a sub 40% approval rating. Most of that comes from the base that voted for him. It's like 40% of 50% of the US adult population. The rest of the US knows he's a ****ing idiot. The dude is a monster and most people know he's a monster. Focus on that. Don't focus on the deplorables building him up. He's an abject failure.

When Republicans say "he needs to stop the tweeting", what they're really saying is "prop him up in front of a teleprompter, shut him down everywhere else, and hope to God we break even over 4 years."

They need to learn to cut their losses and do what's best for America.

Being more hawkish and still being way better overall foreign policy wise can somehow both be true when the guy you're replacing is Trump imo. Pretty remarkable given how hawkish he talks yet thankfully hasn't had the balls/lack of a brain to act on that talk in an extreme manner yet.

Even worse if he gets wind of what was in the speech. Obama took shots at him left and right without once mentioning his name. The high point was when Obama said he was still optimistic about Paris "even with the temporary lack of American leadership".

Pence definitely withdraws from the Paris Accord. He does not build a wall. He likely does not do anything as stupid as the travel ban.

Pence would clearly be "not as bad" as Trump to me. The big danger with Pence is that he represents the GOP's low-key fascism, which is much, MUCH desirable to Trump's lizard-brain fascism I think. His economic plan is disastrous, but we'd have a much better chance of fading nuclear war or global war with Pence at the helm.

All this is moot, however, if we don't find a way to impeach Trump. I have a hard time seeing how that happens with Paul Ryan as Speaker.

There is no straight line to President Pence. The best path to get there involves taking back the House in 2018 and I don't even know how we would get the conviction through the Senate. Besides, getting rid of Trump and continuing to lose on the local level will mean the Resistance has failed. We MUST take back local and state level offices in order to undo some of this gerrymandering and voter suppression (taking place at the state level) or we are totally screwed going forward. To my mind, Trump is just a symptom of a toxic and broken political system, he's nothing even that special. We have to fix the cause and get to the roots of the issue.
