It wasn't till it was 100% obvious they turned on nixon (and even then majority of R voters still supported nixon). Same thing is going on here, if there's any shot at deflecting/denying they're not turning. Only difference here is they may never anyway since it's a R congress.

I think it is about time for liberals and the left to stop engaging in those discussions. Whether or not a grown up man should be taken by his word is not worthy of any kind of discussion. What kind of generation will we raise, if we even give people the chance to say "It is ok for the president of a country to lie to his people."

Lots of the historians and Nixon lawyers, Congress people, etc. I've seen on MSM lately have said that Republicans were incredibly difficult to turn, even back then.

My theory on what's different about GOP today is that Trump has them either caught up in the web, or on the potential oligarch list. He's gotta be making tremendous promises to both the people around him and leaders of other countries.

It doesn't make sense why GOP hasn't moved in for the kill against Trump so President Pency can take over and get the big $ bills passed. They shouldn't want Trump there at all, now that he's shown them he can't be trusted, is a ticking time bomb, is an idiot, can't be controlled, etc. What is it that Trump has to offer that's bigger than the $ Pence would be bringing in through healthcare, taxes, and all those goodies?

How come Trump is immune to crimes, and only has to worry about the political decision of impeachment (which won't happen)? Did the laws change after Nixon for the worse? That wouldn't make sense.
Watergate was a 2 year process. This **** takes time. It sucks but it is what it is.

Plus, the GOP has managed to convince themselves and their voters that the press is the enemy. So they get to scream "Witch hunt!" and not be held accountable. Just say you are "deeply troubled" or "very concerned" and your voters think you are on top of things.

They don't need Pence for that to happen, any bill they can ram through the House and squeak through the Senate would be signed by Trump the second they put it in front of him.

They are terrified of Trump. He'd go nuclear on them if they booted his ass to the curb. The bottom line is they need the Trumpkins to vote for them. If Trump trashes Paul Ryan for example, Ryan is ****ed in the next election.

They brought all this upon themselves. It's not going to end pretty and History will look very unkindly to these dopes.

Keep in mind that he could be drumming up drama to counter Comey news, and while that seems to be working a bit, there is no requirement whatsoever to crush yourself in the process. So strange.
Best quotes i heard about this situation are.

"The whole worlds intellectual capacity is focused on understanding a moron"

"We all know he is a idiot, what more is there to comment?"

"Just informed Senate Foreign Relations Chair Corker of what Trump tweeted about Qatar and was met with about 8 seconds of stunned silence."

This seems like a pretty clear indication that Comey has nothing damaging to say about him, might as well cancel the hearing iyam

They found out in the primaries, to their own horror, that half of the republican voting base is fully deplorable. If they burn trump that big base of deplorables might feel burned by the Republican Party, and may vote for third party David Duke in the future, splitting their coalition of uneducated white dopes bigly

I've countered this a few times, so why not again?

1) Information is FLYING around today. People who were alive for Nixon almost unanimously say where we are now after 4 months feels like the end of Watergate.

2) Nixon was smart and experienced with the law and the government. Trump, not so much. I mean, he isn't even planning on STFUing at all. He's gonna live tweet Comey for Christ's sake!

3) We're not just talking crime + cover-up like with Nixon. Trump is involved with so much more, both legal and illegal. He's misusing the power of the presidency to run a HUGE deception campaign against the public, erode democracy, damage US interests, stack the government with mini-Trump loyalists, tear apart global relations, discriminate by class and race and religion, anger everyone, spread fear, gut our economy for personal gain, should I go on? The point of this is that the serious investigations aren't blind. They realize the rush.

Mueller is probably going to have to issue quarterly reports. "I'm sorry, but we've uncovered so much criminality that we will have to conduct rolling prosecutions."

Trump is gonna trash ryan or mccain or whoever anyway if he thinks he can get a full loyalist in there. If you're not loyal once you're on his **** list forever in his world.

With NPD's there's all sorts of complete random **** that gets you on that list forever.

I wish I didn't know that.

Do we think Trump even knows what is potentially damaging to himself? I don't expect big bombshells, but we're in a bit deep here.

U.K. Prime Minister Theresa May offered a rebuke of President Trump to a British tabloid today, saying he was "wrong" to criticize Sadiq Khan, London’s first Muslim mayor, in the wake of Saturday's terror attack that killed seven people.

May first told The Sun that the "relationship with America is our deepest and most important defense and security relationship."

“Having said that," she added, "I think Donald Trump is wrong in what he said about Sadiq Khan, in relation to the attack on London Bridge."
