People sometimes have crazy reasons for voting and the more desperate they are the crazier the reasons. A poster in the UK election thread has just said that he knows of someone who will vote against the PM partly because she has a 'hunched back'.

I doubt that most people who voted for Trump expected him to be this bad, and were probably just being stupid in thinking it a protest vote. What I find astonishing about the US system is how it appears that one person can do this singlehandedly.

America abdicates its leadership of the world community.

For that matter I'm not sure what isn't. Flying lessons maybe?
The "Barefoot Bandit" supposedly taught himself to fly using flight instruction videos and flying games... He had continuing problems with landings though.

Not even leading, just being a part of it. 195 countries are supporting the Paris agreement.

I'm in agreement with you man, that's the point. Those who didn't vote for Hillary all share some level of responsibility.

There's a very large thread somewhere on 2+2 about a prop bet with a guy having to take off and land an airplane with nothing but a flight simulator computer game as training.

No, he has the support of his party. They put up with some of the more outlandish stuff because they have no spine, no morals, no ethics, and no cause other than enriching themselves and their benefactors. They are in favor of most if not all of his policies, they may just slightly differ on the extent to which the policy goes.

If he can pull this **** the odds on him nuking a country must come right down.

Back to the isolationism of the 1920s.

He did want to go back to the good old days. He just didn't specify when.

If this administration continues to enact policies that destroy the world, would there come a point where it would be justified for the rest of the world to collectively declare war against the US since it would have become a malignant tumor? And who would win that fight?

We would.

So Trump said nothing about Manchester, nothing about Portland, nothing about Mississippi, but took time out of his speech for a robbery in Manila?

Geez.

Got back from vacation. Of course Trumpy does this **** w/ climate change. JFC.

He is literally a petulant child angry at everything big brother Obama did.

yeah, this. As pointed out above, it's probably less than 50%, but still. If you voted against Trump, you don't deserve the shame you're inevitably feeling right now.

All empires come to an end at some point and Trump would appear to be leading the US's demise as #1 world leader who everyone looks too. China/EU time to step up and claim the mantle.

Let's not kid ourselves withdrawing from this means nothing in real terms - renewables are better value or soon will be significantly better value (insert arguing). It's a big step away from the world stage in reality.

How will you Americans deal with being #2/3/4 etc in the future? I'm guessing not well.
06-01-2017 , 05:20 PM
A lot of people won't deal with it. Why would they have to? It's an abstract concept and like any other abstract concept they'll just lie to themselves. In fact in a lot of GOP voters' minds this makes America greater than ever because it's a huge middle finger to the civilized world.

The same way we've dealt with our decline in things like health care and education: by plugging our ears and chanting "USA! USA!" when anyone points out we're not #1.
06-01-2017 , 05:22 PM
If the possibility that the US might not be #1 in the future attracted voters to Trump, I shudder to think how they'll react when that day actually comes.
