Ok, but just don't say "everybody" because there were people against. Take something like the USA Freedom Act of 2015 and 120 people in congress voted against it.

Seriously **** this guy, Merrick Garland?

“@peteschroeder: Hatch calls Dem boycott of nominees "the most pathetic thing I've seen in my whole time in the US Senate." He's served since 1977.”

I don't think you appreciate how crazy Trump's foreign policy instincts are, and how much better off we would be if Trump deferred to Mattis on some of this stuff. Mattis's position on the Iran deal is that it is imperfect but we should honor it. Trump's position is that we should rip it up. Mattis opposes torture. Trump embraces it. Mattis is highly suspicious of Russia and deeply committed to NATO. Trump thinks he can work productively with Putin and his statements about NATO were among the craziest, most reckless things he said during the campaign.

Granted, but he has some semblance of competence and sanity. Unlike Devos and other cabinet picks who are utterly unqualified for their posts and can do lasting irreparable damage for decades to come.

You can still call and voice your opinion. Politicians care about popularity and getting re-elected. People in CA know people and have family in TX and visa~versa. And who knows what future plans they have that might require your and/or your (D)senator's vote someday?

The good news is that there are enough republicans that can resist. McCain for example knows that while Trump won AZ by 4%, he won by 14%! He can (and seems to be) resisting to some extent. Others hopefully, will fall in line.

If I could get rid of one Cabinet appointee, I think that I get rid of Sessions. Devos and Carson are utterly unqualified but their positions are less important.

Having a nightmare as Attorney General is no laughing matter.

If your rep is D, you can call and tell em you appreciate what they do.

Apparently he doesn't remember the last 8 years at all.

Same exact tactic in 2013 for an Obama cabinet member:
Quote:
Republican senators on Thursday stalled the confirmation of President Barack Obama's pick to lead the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, saying they were "completely unsatisfied" with answers provided by Gina McCarthy on several topics.

All eight committee Republicans refused to participate in a scheduled vote on McCarthy, leaving her nomination in limbo and unable to advance to the next stage - a full Senate vote.

I know because I was wildly against it. The entire thing, Afghanistan, The War On Bad Things Terror, all of it. That's still an unpopular opinion.

Too much credit given. He sees it as 'opposing team, **** them, they lost, get over it.' He wants desperately to be different and better than your run of the mill Trumpkin, see his victory lap above about Mattis, but he's not. He's just like the rest of the them. His instinct response to this post will probably be 'this is why you lost', of course he won't post it now though.

Probably better, because a civil war between a bunch of rednecks carrying hunting rifles and the 3rd Armoured Division is going to result in nothing but a bloodbath. They're not going to be able to overthrow Trump or even to mount any kind of reasonable resistance to his policies. They're just going to get dead.

Hypocrisy doesn't matter to their voters apparently. They probably enjoy that we are mad about it.

I don't disagree about Sessions, but I'll use your line and say I don't think you appreciate how crazy Devos' instincts are when it comes to education or the everlasting damage she can to do children who are in the public education system. This can be not only damaging, but dangerous to our future as well.

Members of Schumer's family were killed in the Holocaust. The rejection of refugees (as was done to Jews by the US in the 1930s, who subsequently died in the Holocaust) is a pretty personal thing. To even suggest that someone who has suffered such a personal tragedy in relation to the Holocaust is faking it is absolutely anti-Semitic.

Except it's not Trump who can do this, it's McConnell and (I think) he can't do it until the start of the next Congressional session.

Also it's a pretty serious move that takes a lot of leverage away from the minority party. Quite possible it doesn't pass -- in large part because the GOP might be afraid of Trump and need the Dems in the Senate to rein him in.

Did you find Trump's Holocaust statement the other day anti-Semitic? If so, why? If not, why not?

I don't see much difference between his actions on either of these.

Secretary of Education doesn't have much power. Education is mostly state and local.

HUD on the otoh (he mentioned Carson) does provide a lot of services directly and also in grants to local governments. HUD also writes regulations for fair housing.

Gorsuch seems to be the pick for SCOTUS. Absolutely a must oppose at all cost.

Gorsuch wrote the Circuit opinion for Hobby Lobby (birth control exemption for Obamacare) that SCOTUS upheld.

Purely a question of position. Devos is a complete joke and should not be confirmed.

I deleted my post to consider your response to avwal. Pretty quickly too, you caught it fast.

I didn't realize what avwal was referring to vis a vis Schumerer. I thought it was just standard "liberal whiner!"

You will get no argument from me about Devos. Her nomination is an insult to political decency.

IMO Trump's statement was worse because it was calculated (by Bannon probably).

I'm not sure if avwal's comment was antisemitic or just being an *******. I think there's at least some ethnocentrism on display as I doubt he would be so insensitive if it involved a group he identified with.
