**** that. The media is supposed to give people the truth. Having a guy like Lord doesn't provide balance. It provides a platform for a man to spew pro-Trump rhetoric to a wide audience.

I genuinely wonder if Lord actually believes what he believes or if CNN gave him a role to play for the station.
It really sends a strange signal. Like they are making this move in the name of "decency" but I guess they have no problem with a guy defending taking healthcare away from millions of kids + poor people because he wears a suit and a bow tie and a three dollar grin. You can peddle any kind of indecent hatefulness so like as you so do it with civility. Or something.

A lot of people have pointed out that Ted Nugent was rewarded with his violent comments about President Obama and Hillary Clinton with a trip to the White House. Nothing matters to a lot of people nowadays except "what team are they on."

If you have been reading this blog and following me on Periscope, you know I announced I was going to use my own powers of persuasion to nudge climate scientists into doing a better job of communicating their side of things. The climate models are the least-credible thing scientists do, and yet scientists have been using their models as their featured evidence. No matter which side you are on with the climate change debate, you don’t want either side using their weakest argument. You want both sides to do their best so we can accurately judge who has the strongest thinking. To that end, I framed the “climate models” as being necessarily incomplete because you really need economic models to decide how to react to climate change, not scientific models. And long-term economic models have zero credibility. Even scientists would agree on that point.

Evidently I applied enough persuasion to generate this video that attempts to debunk my debunking of climate models. But it does so by…devaluing their own models. That’s what I was trying to do too. We’re on the same page.

Watch the clip for the Absurd Absolute tell for cognitive dissonance that happens at ten seconds in. The scientist defines the opposition argument with the absurd absolutes “anything” and “everything.” Whenever you see your opposition create a strawman argument with absurd absolutes, it means you won the debate. You only see this behavior when the opposition has no response to your real argument; they have to transform it into an absurd absolute in order to have any response at all.

I told you I was going to rewire this global debate exactly this way. I did this as a demonstration of the power of persuasion.

I mean, OK, full benefit of the doubt: He knew what he was saying there. The people who matter (to him) knew what he was saying there. It was completely intentional and makes sense to those for whom it should make sense.

Fair enough.

Sooooo why did he delete it?

a) there is Absolute Zero (-459.67° Fahrenheit) historical evidence that Benjamin Franklin ever uttered or wrote this phrase, and

b) the phrase "pursuit of happiness" appears nowhere in the Constitution; it is in the Declaration of Independence.

I didn't bother reading any further than that.
Oh I dunno, it's kinda fun having a look inside the minds of crazy people. Know thy enemy and all lol. I definitely don't bother trying to argue with them.

I don't really watch TV news, but wouldn't it be beneficial to have someone on like that just to have him constantly get destroyed by more educated people? Kinda like what Fox News does but destroying them with facts and arguments instead of yelling and insults?

See you would really think so. But it's part of the authoritarian playbook. People like Lord add small bits of trivia and misinformation and confusion to the argument, they don't actually add any real information. By putting him on an equal plane with Anderson Cooper for example, it sends a signal to the audience that he's an expert or at least has opinions worth listening to. This is a dangerous thing when I know, you know, and CNN knows that he's just talking out of his ass almost constantly. It's just one more reason for low-information voters to not trust the media and tune out completely, and when that happens Trump wins.

Oh you are definitely making the right call there. That board is an echo chamber, by design. Dissent is not allowed. It's right there in the sticky (and I'm paraphrasing).

Phenomenal article on Trump that is both beautifully written and the best take down I've ever read.

Why do 45* and his droogs want to leave the Paris agreement? I've been searching for a coherent argument against the accords, but can't seem to find one, other than GLOBALISM BAD.

Probably kept Europe from sinking into another hole that might as well been equivalent to a major catostrophe with global repercussions. The. EU was a bad idea, Germany kept it from being an earth shattering idea.
