Yeah, I hate to spoil everyone's fun, but there's dozens of right-wing blowhards with obscure AM radio shows that are ready to take Hannity's place if his banner should fall.

Hard to get anymore GOP than to praise a guy who extra judicially kills the poor.

Gowdy doubles down on his **** up from earlier today. How the hell is this guy the golden child for Trump slappies?

Well they don't pick for intelligence.

Anyway, sorry to beat a dead horse, but I have to reup these quotes from Ur-Fascism in light of all the new developments.

http://www.nybooks.com/articles/1995/06/22/ur-fascism/
Quote:
7. To people who feel deprived of a clear social identity, Ur-Fascism says that their only privilege is the most common one, to be born in the same country. This is the origin of nationalism. Besides, the only ones who can provide an identity to the nation are its enemies. Thus at the root of the Ur-Fascist psychology there is the obsession with a plot, possibly an international one. The followers must feel besieged. The easiest way to solve the plot is the appeal to xenophobia. But the plot must also come from the inside: Jews are usually the best target because they have the advantage of being at the same time inside and outside. In the US, a prominent instance of the plot obsession is to be found in Pat Robertson’s The New World Order, but, as we have recently seen, there are many others.

9. For Ur-Fascism there is no struggle for life but, rather, life is lived for struggle. Thus pacifism is trafficking with the enemy. It is bad because life is permanent warfare. This, however, brings about an Armageddon complex. Since enemies have to be defeated, there must be a final battle, after which the movement will have control of the world. But such a “final solution” implies a further era of peace, a Golden Age, which contradicts the principle of permanent war. No fascist leader has ever succeeded in solving this predicament.

Maybe I will never be in the True Left, because I cannot fathom the mentality of a progressive who doesn't want to see Hannity suffer even if just a little bit. Like yours and DVaut's frame of mind is 100% geared to the systemic and social problems that underpin Fox News. I obviously agree those exist, but it doesn't dampen my enjoyment of bad dudes getting embarrassed on a national stage.

So we are back to idiot (R) congresscritters being idiots and being praised by deplorables

God bless you people who find the energy to fight this ****

I'll def be entertained a bit if he gets booted off Fox. I just don't want anyone to think he's the final boss of the right-wing derposhpere.

I certainly don't find it a personal failure to take pleasure in Hannity's firing so I surely hope you don't think I'm asking you to feel guilty. Please, enjoy the moment.

But I think Trolly is correct that he'll just be replaced by someone indistinguishable from him and none of the factors that lead to Sean Hannity having a career as someone who provides his opinion on politics will have changed. And I do think that even his firing should prompt us to be deeply, deeply introspective about why Sean Hannity exists at all.

I'll tramp the dirt down.

If Hannity is a case where Fox News is actively saying they won't engage in conspiracy theories anymore then he is a sort of final boss. Sure, there will be sequels, but at least the sequels might be watered down versions.

Fox lost BillO and enough viewers stopped watching to have an impact. They dropped from 1st to 3rd after that, with MSNBC and CNN as 1 & 2 the last what, 10 days?

If Hannity goes next (people have been pounding his advertisers too lately) then Fox will surely suffer another hit. Especially right after having to retract one of their biggest stories in a while.

There's already a bunch of imitators and even more unhinged lunatics like Breitbart and infowars filling the mindspace of the right. Sure, the demise of Fox News might be cathartic but if it's simply because old whites who watch cable news are dying but are being replaced by aging whites who know how to use an internet browser and are F5'ing Drudge and Breitbart all day then it's a shallow victory. We'll just be back here in 2036 wondering aloud why grandpa is an unhinged lunatic and how did Milo Yaninolpolous and Tomi Lehran become the winning ticket, oh I know, it's all the propaganda power Ben Shapiro has accumulated, can't wait until he's fired etc.

If they fire Hannity for being a nut job conspiracy theorist, why would they hire another nut job conspiracy theorist without his following?

He isn't at risk because he is a nut job conspiracy theorist. He has pushed birther nonsense and lots of other conspiracy garbage in the past.

He's at risk because he chose to push the wrong conspiracy theory at the wrong time.

I think Trolly and you overlook the fact that we might have lost an election, but we are still winning the culture war. Fox News having to tone down its crazy side and perverted side, a healthy chunk of America refuting Muslim bans in airports, SCOTUS throwing out NC's racist gerrymandering in two districts. I think in twenty years we are going to be in a better spot regardless if the alt-right ****s are still around.

As Paul is saying, there are less of those kind of people. Unfortunately, they're louder and some have ascended a bit.

I think there's some chance that there's something actually wrong with Hannity tbh
