Conventional wisdom says it has something to do with people tired of the spin and them not covering the news but I don't buy it given who their average viewer is...
they're not crossing over, they're turning off the tv

THe soft bigotry to low expectations?

Hey, I finally figured out the reason Trump refers to himself in the 3rd person. It's so he can claim heresay later in court.

Nobody wants to see Ted ****ing Nugent commentary on our political discourse. It just further delegitimizes faux news.

O'reilly was hack and barely registers as Journalist in my opinion but he was at least occasionally critical of R's and even sometimes gave Obama credit. This gave him some legitimacy in the eyes of his viewers. That is all gone from Fake News Network and the ratings are indicating that. All that's left are the rabid partisans.

The Nazis as students of America’s worst racial atrocities
https://www.washingtonpost.com/opini...=.51d56a450600
Quote:
When Adolf Hitler seized control of Germany in 1933, one of his priorities was to create a legal framework for his vision of an anti-Semitic state. Thus began a meticulous Nazi research project on race-based lawmaking aimed at erasing the rights of Germany’s Jews.

One foreign country in particular grabbed the Nazis’ interest because of its advanced and innovative system of legal racism.

The object of Nazi fascination? America.

“In the early twentieth century the United States was not just a country with racism,” writes Yale law professor James Whitman in his book “Hitler’s American Model.” “It was the leading racist jurisdiction — so much so that even Nazi Germany looked to America for inspiration.”
"Hitler's American Model: The United States and the Making of Nazi Race Law," by James Q. Whitman (Princeton Univ.)

In his startling new history, Whitman traces the substantial influence of American race laws on the Third Reich. The book, in effect, is a portrait of the United States assembled from the admiring notes of Nazi lawmakers, who routinely referenced American policies in the design of their own racist regime.

[How the Nazis rode into battle high on crystal meth]

As they drafted their own laws to exclude German Jews from public and civic life, Nazi lawyers carefully studied how the United States suppressed nonwhite immigrants and consigned minorities to second-class citizenship. In private hearings, they discussed how the U.S. model for white supremacy in the Jim Crow South could be transposed to Germany and inflicted on the Jews.

The Nazis were keenly influenced by America’s laws forbidding interracial marriage. Dozens of states not only banned black-white unions but subjected violators to lengthy jail sentences. The harsh criminalization of mixed-race marriages in America set an example for the Nazis as they created their Law for the Protection of German Blood and German Honour, which forbade German Jews from marrying non-Jews, invalidated existing mixed marriages and sent offenders to prison labor camps.

[‘Imbeciles:’ Shining a light on one of the Supreme Court’s darkest moments]

Whitman’s book contributes to a growing recognition of American influences on Nazi thought. Other historians have shown, for instance, that the vigorous U.S. eugenics movement emboldened the Nazis, who copied America’s forced-sterilization programs and took cover in the pseudoscientific theories of American eugenicists.

Biographer John Toland has noted that Hitler admired the American conquest of the West, particularly the decimation of the Native American population. The Nazi concentration camps may have been based, in part, Toland argued, on the Native American reservation system.

I think if Adolf Hitler were alive today he would probably admire our mass incarceration system as one of the greatest inventions man has ever made.

Supposedly Trump fans don't want to hear bad news about the president and since it's all bad news they're not even watching Fox, which is also doing a pretty bad job of spinning the Trump situation.

Trump Voters!

Quote:
“I don’t vote for traitors,” he said of Clinton. “If they would leave Mr. Trump alone, he could do what he said he would do. Let him run the country, get some changes done for the better.”

Walker, 54, who manufactures display cases, is counting on Trump to insist on legal immigration, pump up the economy and “restore fighting spirit to our military and let them do their job.”
Quote:
“I thought it was time for a change,” he said. “So far, I give him a good approval rating. I know he’s had some miscues, but all presidents have that in their first year.”

Jim Hatfield, 75, a retired Postal Service driver, acknowledged Trump’s early bumps but said, “I’d give him a B-plus. It’s a learning curve. He’s headed the right way. Now, if only he can get some support on the left.”

Hatfield likes Trump’s proposed tax plan, immigration crackdown and move to bolster the military.

Hatfield was surprised that Trump won, but added: “I think the Christian people spoke.”

Pence wouldn't win in 2020 though. Dude is just plain vanilla. A lot of the people that voted for Trump wouldn't even bother to vote. He'd be like Gerald Ford.

He'd also be dumb enough to instill his gay agenda which would be political suicide. Young voters would show up at the polls in droves.

Christ, these Trump slappies really do whatever the amygdala tells them. Just mention the word Trump or Clinton and they go into a frenzy.
05-21-2017 , 03:37 PM
Well the Clintons have been the targets of a 25-30 year smear campaign, and it's not as if their scandals only played on Fox News and Breitbart.

Plain vanilla isn't necessarily bad in a Presidential candidate. A good strategy for national elections, where you need to collect a diverse collection of voting interests under a broad coalition, it to present yourself so that the voters can project their personal beliefs onto you. Having a vague and broad "conservative" identity is one way of achieving that.

I'm also not sure your second point is right either. Doesn't the recent record show that people come out in droves to vote for an inspirational candidate, not against a terrible candidate?

my mom said she talked politics with some old white ladies at the church today and they love trump rn. they literally think trump is going to raise their social security benefits. they were still hating hard on obama, saying he wasn't a citizen and he took tons of vacations and according to my mom, they made a lot of exaggerated thumbs down movements regarding obama. my mom tried to talk sense to them by criticizing trump's frequent trips to his privately-owned resort in florda, but they parried those arguments by asserting that HILLARY paid for chelsea's wedding with clinton charity money, and some other clinton crimes that my mom wasn't familiar with at all.
05-21-2017 , 05:09 PM
Probably because those crimes didn't happen.

I find with Trumpers that if you're going to argue, you have to get them to stick to the topic. When they can't counter an argument, they go to Whataboutism. When that happens, you've won and it's time to grind them away by forcing them to answer for their savior's errors. If enough people stick on point and don't let red herrings like things that Hillary did divert them, then maybe we'll get through.
05-21-2017 , 05:11 PM

Thank god we elected a president the world respects.

That strategy certainly didn't work for Jeb!
