He'd also be dumb enough to instill his gay agenda which would be political suicide. Young voters would show up at the polls in droves.
Plain vanilla isn't necessarily bad in a Presidential candidate. A good strategy for national elections, where you need to collect a diverse collection of voting interests under a broad coalition, it to present yourself so that the voters can project their personal beliefs onto you. Having a vague and broad "conservative" identity is one way of achieving that.
I'm also not sure your second point is right either. Doesn't the recent record show that people come out in droves to vote
for an inspirational candidate, not against a terrible candidate?
