I think a good number of the Dan haters do sincerely believe he's rightwing. If you read his posts only occasionally, you'll get lot of stuff about neoliberal shills, and you quoting all of those posts and calling him a rightwinger. It's possible to sincerely hold that view. I don't think you hold it sincerely though. You hold it as a matter of convenience. It's a good bludgeon to use against him. It's like our discussion about David Sklansky. You call him a Trump supporter constantly, but when we expanded on that, it turns out that you don't think he actually voted for Trump, and he probably voted for Clinton if anyone, but he's really a Trump supporter on the inside, well maybe just more of a rightwinger generally. That's similar to what I think you think about HD, like he's a Ron Paul guy deep down, and you're gonna take that idea and carry it much further in your posts about him.

My read on Dan is that he is a fairly thoughtful guy with deeply ingrained, subconscious, O'Reilly style nonsense. So like he wants to be objective, but he keeps butting up against horrible values he doesn't even really know he has.

It will never happen. My Sister-in-Law has a disabled son that had a stroke during birth. He's 27 now, paralyzed on one side, blind in one eye and that video of Trump making fun of the reporter meant nothing to her. She still voted for him.

If that was the calculus you might have a point, but since it's easy to both provide services for the 90-year-old and the children with cancer it's kind of a moot point. Or it was before they gave rich people back the 3.9% needed to accomplish it.

ya, my dads gf works at a small town in special ed. she had been no thought republican her whole life but trump was so disgusting that she converted. every other person at her work went trump. these are ppl that work with special ed kids all day. so they voted against their livelihood, and against the ppl that they work with and educate and really actually protect.

its truly unbelievable.

my aunt had never been political in her whole life but she went full on trumpkin. reposting and liking all his stuff and all the anti hilary stuff on facebook. this is a women who was a single mother whos only kid was/is really terribly bipolar. and even at 40+ the daughter has awful episodes. just a few years ago she spent 2 weeks in the hospital after going absolutely nuts manic.

the kid has nearly bankrupted her as is, but the govt has paid millions over her life. my aunt has no education and worked minimum wage for a long time and then for the 2nd half of her life had a decent job making lower middle class money. certainly not nearly enough to pay for all of the hospital visits and counseling and then just straight up supporting her daughter.

the daugher has ofc benefited from low income housing and medicare and food banks and surely many other programs.

ya see, these ppl are just hopeless and irredeemable. no, I am not talking about the sick ones. I mean the trumpers.

I think the above two anecdotes is a clear testament to two things: 1) just how poorly the DNC and democratic party have been at messaging and supporting rational progressive causes that greatly benefit the whole of humanity, and 2) just how powerful the effects of corporate media mind control in dividing people, muddying the waters, and getting people to vote against their best interests.
