The Presidency of Donald J. Trump: No smocking guns. The Presidency of Donald J. Trump: No smocking guns.

Lol at the 2+2 politics forum

Members combined easily lost $1+ million in the "betting on elections" thread due to the creation of an echo chamber and gang mentality against anyone who tried to offer an outside opinion, to the point that opposing point of views just stopped bothering

Everyone who tries to offer an opposing perspective continues to be bashed and dismissed. You've learned nothing

The vast majority of perspectives ITT are incredinly valid and insightful but it only offers half of the story and until acceptance of outside opinions is shown, this thread will continue to be in a state of shock and awe for the next 4 (8?) years. Enjoy your ride and constant state of "how is this happening?" I guess

inb4 but but but but but but how can you support what Trump's done so far? I don't support everything he's done, certainly not the immigration bans, but my point has nothing to do with his policies so far or going forward

Doesn't matter, contempt is not enforced by indictment/trial. Judge orders you to appear, if you dont the marshals come get you, and at the end of a hearing they can have the marshals take you into custody/jail. No role for DOJ. [This is simplified, but within the power of the courts.]

not everyone can be a good human being no worries

At what point does the call for counter demonstrations (and the possibility of clashes) start hitting the air on FNC?

The post I was responding to specifically asked about the DOJ indicting people including the president.

Your point is a little more complicated. The Marshals are technically part of the DOJ, so by definition the DOJ does have a role. The question is what do the Marshals do when they get conflicting orders. I personally have no idea.

The below is not hyperbole:

These two articles are the scariest things I have ever read. And I'm seriously considering making plans to leave the country in the next year.

What Things going Wrong Can Look Like

Trial Balloon for A Coup?

After reading those two articles, please, someone, talk me down off the ledge and tell me that this is conspiracy bull****.
I love history and the idea behind it being so important to avoid making the same mistakes of the past. I remember reading somewhere about nations having a 200 year life span essentially before they fail (perhaps 48 laws of power?). I found the quote and it chilling:

"A democracy is always temporary in nature; it simply cannot exist as a permanent form of government. A democracy will continue to exist up until the time that voters discover that they can vote themselves generous gifts from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates who promise the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that every democracy will finally collapse due to loose fiscal policy, which is always followed by a dictatorship.

The average age of the world's greatest civilizations from the beginning of history has been about 200 years. During those 200 years, these nations always progressed through the following sequence: From bondage to spiritual faith; From spiritual faith to great courage; From courage to liberty; From liberty to abundance; From abundance to selfishness; From selfishness to complacency; From complacency to apathy; From apathy to dependence; From dependence back into bondage."

All I can think about after reading those articles is as a child going through hebrew school and visiting the museum of jewish heritage. They constantly stressed over and over how important it was to remember what happened so the world will never experience again such a tragedy.

Past few days I've gone done the rabbit hole after for the most part just thinking this would blow over (could there ever be a more apt use of thisisfine.jpg?). Holy **** is this scary, to the point where I'm bordering on an anxiety attack. I don't know what to do but feel like I have to do something to fight back.

200 years thing seems a bit silly, see England and Rome. Civilization does not evolve based on abstract laws. I'm in a tizzy over this Trump thing, but it's pretty minor and is sapping his legitimacy, a net plus. I bet Bannon is out in 90 days, some of Trump's staff will resign, and he'll be on a much shorter leash. He'll get a few serious talks that significantly reign him in. Reince looked beaten on meet the press. America will not slowly decline. If anything we'll get done by an accidental nuclear war, under Trump or some later guy.

Even the Koch's are criticizing Trump. https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/...=.eeac1ea9075f Who does the GOP Congress go with, an erratic moran like Trump who joined the GOP like 10 years ago, or real conservative billionaires who plan to spend $400M in 2018.

The daily prayer of McConnell and Ryan is for Trump to quit, die, get impeached and for Pence to take over asap. Ryan and Pelosi may even cut a deal over it.

This Muslim ban seems like a useful test for Trump to see where the loyalties of his enforcement agencies lie. Looks like the CBP is with him.

There are a few concerning things about the way this was implemented, all of which have already been addressed, but not really tied together. This ban was done without consulting the State Department, DOJ, Congress and other agencies that you would want to have input in a policy like this. Establishment leaders from both sides have either publicly condemned the policy or at least have shown signs that they don't approve. A majority of the public is against the policy. Only his base supports it. Several judges have already ruled it unconstitutional. And none of that matters if CBP chooses to enforce it anyway.

What we've learned in the first week of Trump's presidency is he is who he showed himself to be. So what about his obsession with nuclear weapons? Using a nuclear weapon on some brown country is a decision he can make without consulting other responsible agencies in the government. He may only ask for Steve Bannon's opinion before launching. Establishment leaders and most of the public would be appalled, his base would love it. I dunno if there would be any legal challenges to the decision with all the power we've given to the President since 9/11, but it wouldn't come fast enough and again, the military could be loyal to Trump despite everything.

WAAF. All you rich white people who are like "Hey at least I'm rich and white, Trump won't affect my life that much..." nah, you're ****ed too. I wouldn't be at all surprised to wake up one morning soon to find out we nuked Tehran for no good reason. WW3 is about to kick off, and I actually don't think the US can win. Stalemate due to nuclear winter and the end of humanity, maybe. But I actually take solace in knowing that the US will be divided and alone, with any luck we get our asses kicked quickly and the ROW only insists on a regime change and a new constitution which doesn't allow for an electoral college.

Like all the Trump bettors were wrong too, nobody was saying polls were missing low wavering D turnout in the rust belt, it was all Alex Wice/Scott Adams insanity about master manipulation and upcoming pivots, they were predicting a blowout for Trump.

Being accepting and understanding of opposing points of views is what brings us closer together. As long as harm to others is not involved there is no wrong way to human

d10- I think at this point a civil war/mass unrest is more likely than Trump starting some **** overseas.

If CBP is going rogue here there will be almost certainly be blue state law enforcement action against them.
