Just guessing, but I suppose rich business school grads are making big donations to their alma maters for that sort of thing while the English grads are working at Starbucks and trying to repay their student loans.

meh, that's part of the beauty of the States isn't it. there's things like upstate New York, Michigan, Oregon, Washington state, etc. in the summer.

not too many Canadians hitting the links in the winter/early spring. but if you love cold weather and ****ty weather five months out of the year, Canada is there for you!

A way higher percentage than the countries that send alot of people to our grad schools.

And is the point that you are tying to make that we aren't doing good enough until everybody is well above average? They are top tier for a reason.....if everybody is prepared to succeed at them they should make it harder to succeed at them.

Nope. 1/3rd come from China, which crushes us on STEM.

I seriously don't even understand why this something to argue about. Our K-12 education system is pretty embarrassing compared to our relative wealth. What is it about this fact that triggers people to shift the goalposts and rave about how awesome some of our universities are? We can and should be doing a much better job educating the general populace. There is nothing even remotely controversial about that stance.

I read this a few times and I have no idea what you're trying to say here.

Yep it's legit sad that you have people who claim to be informed like ecriture d'adulte saying such stupid stuff. Especially when considering the fact that people as uninformed as him get a voice in politics. Just so depressing. Think about those who didn't even have the choice for community college like he did.

A lot of people (or as some would say "alot of people") just think that most are inherently too dumb to deserve or make use of much education.

I guess it would be something like raving about China's STEM dominance when they still have an 8% illiteracy rate.

China has 30 million people who live in caves.

Wookie was here wasn't he? Really surprised this derail has gone on so long. It really has nothing to do with the thread.

But, w/e.

I think part of what is wrong with the primary and secondary education in the US is chasing scores like the STEM scores of the yearning middle class of China. I recommend the documentary A Race to Nowhere to anyone with young kids. That's just part of it though - not the part with terrible schools where as many people go to prison as college.

It is admittedly self defeating trying to convince y'all that the university system in the US is by far the greatest in the world.

Yes, we all agree that you have failed miserably in that regard.
