Our education system is legitimately awful, taken on the whole. You seem clueless so I'll just assume you have no idea what you are talking about. Great point though!

later, others said there's no opportunity in the U.S. b/c lol nobody can afford Harvard. microbet and i noted that the U.S. has literally thousands of solid, affordable state/public institutions of higher education.
The education system encapsulates way more than just our higher institutions, which, AGAIN, are an unrealistic possibility for literally tens of millions of people.

A solid, affordable public university does no good for the millions who simply can't get in because their elementary/middle/high school education didn't prepare them properly and/or can't attend because even if you call it affordable, a mom with 2 kids literally can't swing 5k every 6 months. But hey at least they exist!

And our non-higher-education is a legitimate joke, all things considered.

Murdoch sons appear to be running the show now, do not be surprised if his replacement is more moderate than he is... Remember they wanted to turn the network over to Megyn Kelly.

Replacing O'Reilly with Megyn Kelly would easily earn the Murdochs a Troll of the Year nomination.

You are saying foreign students are flocking to american schools that americans don't have access to.....that doesn't make any sense. I didn't assume you didn't know wtf you are talking about. Everybody reading the thread was able to conclude it.

Mid 80's sounds great. High 90's not so much.

So much for that fake newspaper that brought down the #1 show in cable news for 15 years running in a few weeks...

Ecriture, do you know how expensive it is to be a foreign student in basically any western nation? Even in Canada these kids are often paying 30k a year.

I was friends with pretty much only students from non western countries in grad school. They were living off their stipend like I was....nobody was paying anything out of pocket or from parents money. And of course no tuition.

Let them eat Harvard.

Depends on the subject, as I understand it. Some fields give you enough stipend money for grad school that you can get by, others you gotta pony up some considerable coin out of your pocket.

I think so. My wife got a PhD in English so I got a negative dowry.

The opportunity challenge is at least as related to the quality of primary and secondary schools as it is with the cost of college. Of course that has a lot to do with money.

True, but foreign born students aren't flocking to our art history departments.

Yeah. Life sciences almost always pay a stipend. Physical sciences usually, but not always. Outside of STEM and you almost always have to pay for it yourself.

At least at state schools in Florida, foreign exchange students end up paying less than 30k. I am fairly certain they pay less than what I did in some cases.

At the other end of the spectrum, business school PhDs can get stipends in the $30k per year range, which is still absolutely crazy to me.
