yeah, when talking about quality of life we generally don't look at "if you pay ~20k a year for a private school for your young kid then 50k a year for their college they'll be ok."
You look more at the US not being top 25 in reading/science/math.

It's ok though, DeVos will fix it.

American's have to be the undisputed BMI champions though.

edit: That poll includes Republicans, so that would drag down the white score.

Sure, but how many people can afford to attend them? Are qualified to do so? Aren't burdened by the debt of doing so? Let's not pretend these institutions are doing amazing things for everybody who attends them.

pretty much. when the world flocks to your higher institutions of education then the word mediocre doesn't apply imo.

There are problems for sure. You're getting me a bit on the defense though, so I'll say there are very good public universities and I graduated with like $2500 in debt. And my daughter is just going to private college next year and tuition plus the dorms is like $50k, but a lot of schools are pretty generous and I think her/our cost is going to be like $11-$15k.

Judging a country by how well it educates the smartest and wealthiest adults seems a bit dubious.

So, you're not top 30 in the world in science/math, but you have the Ivy Leagues where people can throw away mid six figures on a degree so call it even? Ok I guess?

It's arguable if you're exactly the right amount of elitist.

Trump thinks the same person has led NK since the 90s. There is no dumber person to have ever held public office in any place on earth throughout history.

When attendance at those higher institutions is just straight up not attainable for tens of millions of your citizens, the fact that foreigners leave their own countries to attend them doesn't mean a whole lot in this context.

The fact that we have those programs and yet still lag behind so many other countries when it comes to education generally should tell you something.
