People make it so easy to say a former president not even 100 days from leaving office should PUBLICLY comment on the current president & his policies... Say what you want about W, but did he comment on Obama at all?
04-18-2017 , 05:44 PM
Isn't there an unspoken rule that you don't **** talk your successors?

My suspicion is that after you're done being POTUS the last thing you want to do is get involved in politics again.

He made a huge point about saying he would get involved if DREAMers were deported. If he hadn't said that, I wouldn't give a ****. But he took that responsibility on.

Trump badly wants obama to say and do things in the political realm again. Claiming O is a threat is part of his authoritarian strategy.

Figure GA6 is gonna send enough people away at the polls to force a runoff where ossoff loses. Really though, I'm not a fan of the elite democrats and ossoff is on that platform. I want a candidate who isn't a socialist who wants the $ out of politics, why is that so ****ing hard.

Yes, but I feel like now isn't a great spot to stick to prescedent just for the sake of decorum. Barry Bamz should be out there doing everything he can to stop Trump's agenda and get Dem voters to turn out.

Definitely true that Obama getting involved in politics again would energize the Trump base and probably consolidate Republicans who may have been wishy-washy wrt Trump behind him.

Probably best for BO to stick to giving speeches and writing books for the rest of his life.
04-18-2017 , 05:58 PM
Because your choices on the Dem side right now are the elites or the socialists, ldo. I suppose in some of the hillybilly states you get the blue dog (republicans in disguise) dems.

Bit different.

GWB left on a sour note; he was falling, very quickly, and had an approval rating in the 30's, compared to his successor who entered office with one roughly 40pts higher.

Not the case with Obama, who left very popular and was considered pretty successful, whereas the guy replacing him is as hated as any incoming President ever.

Also, Trump has decided that the rules don't apply to him.

Kirsten Gillibrand is neither a socialist or an elite, and while not being a Republican in disguise nor from a hillbilly state, has plenty of crossover appeal and a very clean background. She'd be a perfect candidate IMO

Obama crushed it twice and left with strong approval ratings. I don't see how it hurts to have him getting involved.
04-18-2017 , 06:05 PM
Some of you guys don't understand politics, Trump's base while still solid is starting to slowly fracture as they continue to get very little done other than EOs. Obama commenting after saying nothing would be the top story for a few days on cable news given you know Trump and others in government would comment in response. That's a great idea for getting your agenda accomplished when your party isn't even in power at most levels...

CNN sources just confirming now that the FBI used the Trump dossier to get the wiretap on Carter Page. Pretty sure we all suspected as much already. They're saying members of Congress just got the info straight from Comey (today?).
04-18-2017 , 06:09 PM
Meanwhile the Dems are already virtually united on almost everything... Do I need to go on?

So contrary to all of the handwringing by centrist Dems, the "Deep State" (ie, ordinary FBI agents) aren't undermining Trump at all. They've known for a long time that he's been working with Russia and they've done absolutely nothing about it.
04-18-2017 , 06:23 PM
Yeah James Comey is not gonna save the Republic. It's time to hit the protest marches and Town Halls.

But all the hot chocolate he can drink.

Will be interesting test between Rupert and his much more moderate children as to how this plays out.

Something like "See? Stick with me and you'll WIN! I make winners out of people!"? Yeah, I guess I can see it.
