Freedom Caucus is probably going to demand that Planned Parenthood be "defunded" and a myriad of other things. Very strong chance we get a govt shutdown because the party who controls all three branches can't agree on a budget.

its pretty much a foregone conclusion that we will have a government shut down. no way these **** sticks get a budget done.

The Trump trade was pretty much long banks/industrials, short rates/utilities/staples & its been unwound since the inauguration. If you can't understand that then no point to continue his discussion...

Unfortunately, I think the election will go like this: Ossoff gets the most votes with something like 42%. Handel (R) and Hill (R) will get the next most, maybe around 20% each. Ossoff will then lose the runoff.

There's also a race for State Senate. I have no idea who to vote for in that. There are three Democratic candidates and all seem to be pretty much the same when it comes to the issues. Only one really gives any details on his stances on his website. I might just vote for the one who has publicized himself the most just because that might mean he has a better chance to win. I know that's lame, but in these races, rallying behind the front-runner might be more important than voting for the ideal candidate.
Ossoff at only 42% (or anything below 45, frankly) would be a legit disaster for the Dems considering all the money and effort they spent. Clinton beat that number last year.

I do agree it's likely going to a runoff and he's not winning.

So it will be like it was the majority of the Obama years?
04-18-2017 , 01:01 PM
The reason I guessed low-40's (and I consider 45% "around" 42%) is because there are other Democrats running. Dems might get more than 50% total, but not all of those will go to Ossoff.

Normally, I'd say people should vote for the person they think is best, but in this case, I hope people just vote for Ossoff no matter what, as he clearly is the only Dem with a chance (not that I don't think he's good, but obviously some voters might like someone else better).

Also, not enough pot/kettle in that statement. Is Pence dishonest or deluded about Trump in general? I'm honestly not sure about the guy.

the daily show does this running bit called "truth trump", where trump publicly and in front of cameras lets the mask slip and says something uncomfortably true. there are lots of funny ones, but there was one when he was campaigning he said something like, "i'm a really rich guy, ok? i wouldn't sell out the country for any amount-- well ok maybe there is an amount tbh haha"

so even in a hypothetical of his own construction, he can't fathom being a person who wouldn't sell out the country for a big enough bribe

Pretty spot on to what I was asking. I wasn't talking about Trump selling out pieces of the country (like he's probably been doing), but more of an overt one shot deal, like say, $50 billion and a global relocation in exchange for everything possible.

i'm trying to figure out, if the republicans got their way and the federal government was extremely minimized and the states had all the rights, how much more would it take to dissolve the country into 50 sovereign nations a la the fall of the soviet union? and how much would it cost to get trump to move it in that direction? putin could afford it and he probably would feel quite satisfied with himself

LOL the Trump slappies forever and ever.

And yea, I know, you didn't vote Trump.

awvall voted for the guy whose private club membership costs twice his annual salary because he imagined that guy is gonna look out for him and his impoverished school friends living back on the farm

Everyday I wake up, hoping that there will finally be an indictment of someone for something. It's been almost 100 days and it keeps getting worse and worse.
04-18-2017 , 01:31 PM
SA, if you can remember back to the early campaign days, when Trump used to spend up to 2 hours at a rally in the South, and was always telling stories about how rich he is and how his thinking got him there...

One of the things he used to say was "you have to think BIG!" It makes you wonder: Now that he won the oval office, how much bigger is he thinking? Could it be global?

To be fair, the membership was only the same as his salary on Election Day

It doubled after because new perks were added:
* weekly multi-day presidential visits
* close-up view of the nuclear football
* close-up view of how the WH deals with national security issues, including classified documents in plain view
04-18-2017 , 02:03 PM
can you imagine if the white house had a year-round private club membership? it would probably be the most exclusive most prestigious club ever created on earth, but i imagine it would also cheapen the office and the country in the eyes of many
04-18-2017 , 02:38 PM
Do the people who work in conservative media and think tanks openly joke about the hypocrisy? Do they even notice it? Like if Obama did any of this **** they would hit the moon. Like how does running the scam work? Is the first rule never admit it is a scam ?

None of this suprising, Trump has been an obvious scamming, know-nothing huckster since day one. Nothing left to say other than Awvalololol and his crew have knowingly, willingly and intentionally placed us in all in a position where we could be extinguished in a nuclear holocaust for no articulable reason other than their sincere and deeply held belief in the need for white male supremacy.

Got a $50 bet on Handel on Predictit as a life hedge. Won't be sad at all if I lose.

I was just pointing out that things haven't changed in Washington.

Things are changing like crazy right now in Washington. Do you not see the American people lose, lose, losing every day?
