The Presidency of Donald J. Trump: No smocking guns. The Presidency of Donald J. Trump: No smocking guns.

Brownback has lowest approval rating of all Gov's, that was probably a bigger reason it was close than anything Trump related.

Not sure if it was posted ITT but Trump told Bartiromo tonight that they still plan to do healthcare reform before tax reform because it makes it easier deficit wise.

Is that them being actually attempting to be responsible or does that have to do with passing it through budget reconciliation?

They went from tax reform to Social Security reform and back to healthcare within about a week. They're making such fast progress it's making my head spin.

If I learned anything from the last election it's that simply not being as objectionable as the opponent is insufficient to ensure success. It was almost surreal to watch the ads Clinton ran. They were nothing but footage of Trump. His boorishness is something his supporters like about him. She might as well have campaigned for him in the places he is popular.

Didn't see anything on SS reform. link?

That's 3rd rail, figured Trump wouldn't touch that.

edit: saw Trump proposed cutting payroll taxes which would then lead to cuts in SS

Social Security Advocates Sound The Alarm About The Latest Trump Tax Plan
April 10, 2017

Following reports that President Donald Trump is dumping the tax plan he campaigned on and exploring a host of other options, advocates for Social Security are sounding the alarm, pointing to a proposal to eliminate the program's primary source of funding: payroll taxes.

Though it is not yet known how far along the White House proposal has progressed, those who want to protect Social Security say they are taking the news "extremely seriously."

"Even if this is just a trial balloon, we want to puncture it as quickly as we can,” said Nancy Altman, the president of the advocacy group Social Security Works.

According to the Associated Press, lobbyists aligned with the Trump administration are pushing for the elimination of the 12.4 percent payroll tax, which is the overwhelming source of revenue for the Social Security trust funds, which provide benefits to the elderly and the disabled. The report published Monday details how they plan to sell the idea to lawmakers and the public:

This approach would give a worker earning $60,000 a year an additional $3,720 in take-home pay, a possible win that lawmakers could highlight back in their districts even though it would involve changing the funding mechanism for Social Security, according to the lobbyist, who asked for anonymity to discuss the proposal without disrupting early negotiations.

Altman, who told TPM that she only found out about this plan from press reports, called it a Trojan Horse.

"They will sell it as a tax cut for the middle class, but really this is undermining middle class economic security, and the ability to retire," she said. "They’ll say they're 'saving' Social Security, but basically they want to scale back or get rid of the program."

Seems like a convenient escapegoat as Emmitt Smith would say.

Did Bannon write that healthcare bill? No, that was Ryan

And they know people will buy into it because besides alt-righters most don't like Bannon.

Just today,

Tillerson asks "why should US taxpayer care about ukraine" while talkign to foreign people in russia

Spicer brilliantly comes up with a way to get the united mess off the news.

Trump gives the old speech about bannon how he's barely there, didn't really do anything, etc etc.

Even republicans who've seen the docs say Nunes was full of crap.

Syria was bombed b/c ivanka told him to

EPA chief wants bodyguards 24/7 since he's got to figure at this point mother earth is gonna try to kill him for revenge.

Alabama Gov resigns b/c of affair and lied about it scandal

Republicans win special election in home turf, but dems blast them vs the spread

The DOJ published Jeff Sessions speech on the border--it used the word "filth" to apparently describe immigrants. Sessions did not say the word however.

NC trying to ban gay marriage again.

WaPo reports that FBI had a FISA warrant on carter page. (this was known on the internet for awhile)

Judge rules Texas voter ID discriminated against blacks/latinos.

That was just tuesday.

A couple utah guys bought a billboard in Utah saying "why won't chaffetz investigation trump russia connection"

Chaffetz response "They can keep wasting their money. It's up to them"

well, got to hand it to chaffetz, can't say he's a weak tight nit.

Gorsuch feels like a month ago.

Obviously it's not going to be that drastic, but this bodes really well for our previously slim hopes of taking back the House in 2018 despite the gerrymandering.
People support Trump not the GOP. That's why they didn't come out.

Uh oh. This is definitely one that the Dems might screw up, Dem style:

- Rs cut social security payroll taxes
- Ds come out with perfectly reasonable policy papers showing that SS is not sustainable without the payroll taxes
- Rs say "look, we told you so, even Ds say SS is bankrupt!"
- Ds spend months backpedaling and apologizing while SS is converted into individual accounts managed by Wall St.

Also, his campaign paid his mistress about half a million.

The mistress was behind a plan to close DMVs in heavily black areas for political gain.

Susan Collins is considering a run for governor of Maine in 2018. That would open a competitive senate race for dems, but most likely she stays put, imo.
